Great little restaurant with a Chinese food or fish and chips selection Added bonus is the location is very close. I have eat here many times and will continue to enjoy my meals there

Tucked in a far corner of a Harvard Square strip mall is Nellie's. I've passed by this restaurant many times and had been intrigued by such a diverse choice - a restaurant that specializes in both Chinese food and fish and chips. But on the recommendation of neighbours I gave it a try.At the end of February I went for fish and chips take out. When I called to order halibut, I was informed they didn't have any that night. So I opted for haddock and asked for both pieces to be lightly battered. It was still piping hot as I unwrapped the paper from a 10 minute drive at my neighbours. The fish were large long pieces, and indeed lightly battered like requested. No fishy taste or smell. I must say it was the best fish and chips that we both have had, and we still talk about the meal. I would definitely recommend this dish. Next time, I would go with the 1/2 order of fries as there were too many, unless you are sharing for two.After such a hit, I wanted to try their Chinese food so that I could share my experience with TripAdvisor readers. Another takeout dinner, and this time I selected Combination No. 4. The food was separated in a compartment Styrofoam container and not mashed up as most Chinese food served in a single round container. There was chicken with diced vegetables, 3 sweet & sour chicken balls, 3 breaded shrimp, chicken fried rice, and egg roll.The chicken with diced vegetables was good in a thick sauce, with crisp diced carrots, celery, green pepper, mushrooms, and unfortunately too many onions for my taste. I would have preferred sliced water chestnuts in place of all the onions. I was a bit concerned that the chicken in this dish wasn't cooked enough. I wasn't quite sure if this impression was from the pale sauce giving the chicken bits the appearance of not being cooked enough.Both the chicken balls and breaded shrimp were standard fare and good.A good portion of fried rice but the chicken was quite tiny and seemed like an afterthought.The egg roll was cooked perfectly. I'm tired of getting egg rolls from other restaurants that are so crispy and dry they are hard to eat.This is a good restaurant as an alternative to Kim Shan Chinese in Ancaster, and I definitely will return.

"Nellies" offers two excellent top notch options. Great Chinese food or arguably even better fish and chips. The inside is nice, though we have only ever been inside to pick up our food. Everyone has their favourite Chinese food or fish and chip joint, We have ordered and served West city to our friends and family and always had rave reviews never any complaints.

The service, as some people note, is not always the fastest. We eat in here and the order is usually taken promptly but it can be a bit of a wait for the food if the restaurant is busy. The Chinese food is OK but the fish and chips are very good. The batter is good and not greasy. You can get a half order of fries with the fish which is a good option if you don't want to overload on fries. It's in a mall so lots of easy parking.
