I ordered a portabello mushroom burger who was funny small. it should come with beet and sweet potato chips and I have sweet potatoes. the burger tasted good, but the part was too small, not worth what I paid. the drink list was always good so I would probably just go back for drinks, but would not be willing to recommend eating.
We were frequent customers of the old Fireside. The seating is uncomfortable in the new place and if you had thicker curtains on the windows we wouldn 't have to watch the street traffic. The drink list is very limited.
On the whole, it was very nice. Quite chilly to start, but the maitre de was kind enough to turn the adjacent fireplace on. Would go again.
Having been to the old Fireside on numerous occasions before it was demolished, we were looking forward to celebrating a birthday at the new Fireside. We were disappointed. Although the birthday girl said her fish and chips were the best she has ever had, the rest of the meals were sub par. My wife and I had the steak, which was overcooked, tough (and we had to ask our server for steak knives), and tasteless. Another member of the party had the burger plate. The burger was crusted on one side and raw on the other. Although the starters were tasty, the nachos did not come with sour cream or salsa just the nachos. The desserts were tasty, but the coffee was stone cold. I think our server was a new hire as she was not familiar with the menu, other than to say that they no longer served several items on the menu...they're cheap...bring them up to date. Someone (we assume the manager) asked how are meal was, and when we said we were disappointed, he left. The birthday girl received a free dessert, with a candle in it. Overall, a poor dining experience.
Debated with husband to go here my choice) and I won, sadly......used to frequent here years ago at their old location and loved the food and Martini Mondays.. it was a cold evening and we were hungry, celebrating our anniversary and I was wanting their famous French Onion Soup main reason I wanted to go there). We get there, we are seated right in the middle of the dining area, not the greatest seating. We ordered our drinks which took 10 mins to arrive and then we ordered our meals, french onion soup of course for me and another app and main courses. 5 mins later the waiter comes back to say he thinks that there not be any french onion soup as he recalled something being wrong with it a few days ago ....he comes back after another 5 mins to say there is none but not given a reason why. Meanwhile we already had our drinks and had ordered everything else. I was disappointed and then ordered the salmon. When our main entrees arrived, salmon with red roasted potatoes and asparagus and hubby ordered the fish and chips, we took our fist bite. The salmon was not fresh, still had skin on it and the potatoes were hard, hubby 's fish was a dark fish, coated in soggy thick batter, I find Janes frozen battered fish much better than what my husband had, at least it is white haddock and lightly breaded. After for a couple of meals and with so many other well reviewed reataurants in the Halifax area, that will be my last visit to The Fireside! Sure far from what they used to be.
