What a fantastic hotel. Great lunch. Hotel owner was extremely personable and engaging. Sir Edmund Hillary would still be welcomed today for sure. We were.

This place is proudly unchanged since the Everest expedition trained there....that applies fully to the cook. Prices are roughly double what they should be and the quality is low. Chef should be given a massive wake up call that food has moved on. Bland soup...miserly portions... inedible porridge...thin cardboard bread...hugely overpeppery sauce on the pork...slapped out puddings...it's lazy and bad. Go for a pint Fter your walk to see the place but don't eat.

Good food, well cooked and presented. The salmon I had was just perfect and I liked the way it was served with cannellini beans

Went there today with a friend to show them the history of the place and to have a drink and a meal if possibld after a hard day on the hill. Wanted to pop into the residents lounge to see some of the artefacts. Told residents only . Understandable I guess to a point but the attitude stank .No need for it . Didn't even get the drink order right .There were 2 of us ffs. Won't be calling again in a hurry .

Stopped for lunch, which was quite good (I recommend the Welsh Black Burger), but this is a shabby place, living in the past and on its connection with the 1953 Mt.Everest expedition. It 's the only time I have walked into a pub and encountered a barmaid who did not know what draft beer is! But it was the generally surly and unhelpful attitude of the employees that I disliked. I asked for the wifi code, but I was told this is for residents only , which was quite a bore in an area which seems to have little if anything by way of a mobile phone signal. All of this makes me rather sad, as it used to be such a jolly place from which to walk and climb. But until someone boots the Pen y Gwryd into the 21st century 's standards of customer service, I would counsel fellow travellers to take their custom elsewhere.
