Bidra med feedbackWe ordered one scone with butter, one shortbread, one hot chocolate with marshmallows and cream, and one basic hot chocolate without extras. The cafe only had four people seated and we were the only ones being served. Both hot chocolates were made very slowly and served almost cold, making it difficult to taste the chocolate - it was more like warm milk with a hint of chocolate on top. The quality of the hot chocolates was far worse than those you can get at Wetherspoons for a third of the price with free refills. Both scones were dry and fell apart when buttered. Overall, it was very disappointing and felt like a waste of money. Beware!
At 11:00, several hot food items were not available. The sandwich selection was very average and overpriced. The restaurant was crowded and some staff appeared to be poorly trained, resulting in slow service and confusion with the card payment machine. The staff seemed unprofessional and disorganized. Avoid this place, especially considering the high entry fee.
I would recommend avoiding the Welsh rarebit at this restaurant. It was so bad that I regret not taking a photo. I had to send it back and exchanged it for the baked potato that my husband had ordered. It was a disappointment.
Six of us decided to have a bite to eat in the tearoom whilst visiting the castle and we were all happy with the food and drink that we bought the prices weren't too bad, and the food was good quality. It was just a lovely cosy place to rest after walking around the castle for a couple of hours.
It is a shame that National Trust properties are now nearly always self-service, and this is no exception. That said, it was a nice enough place to have a light lunch and my pulled pork bap with coleslaw was very nice.
