Bidra med feedbackWe arrived on a Saturday night at 2000 clock and asked for a table for 3. the host said everything was booked for the night and nothing was available. I went away, returned later to ask her (in my broken Swiss German) when it was. another restaurant near the fondue served. it was august, but a cold and wet August day and we were in the mood for fondue. she said no, but she respected, she said to come back at 2030 and she would try to find a table. we have returned, and she found a perfect table for us three and our two dogs. the fondue was delicious and the atmosphere was pleasant. please go and enjoy her evening.
We were spending a few hours in Grindelwald and walked past the Hotel Restaurant Hirschen and saw the chalk board outside advertising apple strudel and ice cream. We couldn't pass that up so in we went, all six of us. The lady who took our...order was extremely friendly and kind and really went out of her way to make sure that we got exactly what we wanted. Four of our party ordered the strudel, but our little granddaughter and I decided on ice cream and cookies with whipped cream. REAL whipped cream. Not the kind of product we have in the USA. The strudel was delicious and the ice cream was full of strawberries and nuts and all good things. We were sad we didn't have time for a full meal because everything coming out of the kitchen looked mouthwatering. If you find yourself in Grindelwald, try the Hotel Restaurant Hirschen for a meal or dessert.
Don't go. we waited 1h for fried fish and a steak. it was okay, but it was really not worth it. we asked where our food was and apparently the steak is to think and needs longer cooking time and the chef is alone. in half...ful restaurant that has 3 menus and the rest is fondue and raclette. pretty simple. they offered sarg as compensation, but we don't drink a coffee that was late. so no compensation at all. the waitress was nice. but it is still worth not to go, as eating really wasn't waiting, even not the desert. Thank you, but not a second time.
We had cheese foefondue and it was delicious, so was the flame cake. the brot was a dream. it was quite empty and quiet at midday. we want to try onkel toms next time, but their opening times are laborious. this restaurant was open and we appreciated it very much.
We enjoyed Hirschen’s flammkuchen and homemade apple strudel. Simple and good food prepared by a competent kitchen team. Doing away with the 80s style paper decoration and serving homemade instead of shop bought ice cream would have lifted the dessert from good to excellent. Even...so, the food itself was still a solid four stars. The meal, however, was marred by the lady boss’ unpleasant insistent attitude. As guests we can agree to disagree on the establishment’s ‘no free tap water’ policy and need not be lectured repeatedly on why it is in place. It would have been a better call to let the food do the talking and allow us to savour the meal.
