Excellent home-made food and baking- best in the area; comfortable surroundings; friendly service. Take-away a treat! I love it here.

Mara have now added wonderful home made bagels to their range of delicious home made cakes and excellent coffee. I have been a regular for several years and enjoy the elegant and comfortable environment and friendly welcome.

Awful woman and horrid shop! if you want to support local shops find somewhere that supports their community too. Products in the shop are over priced and cheap

I have been coming here on and off over the last few years for coffee and cake. My last visit was disappointing as my cake came on a chipped plate which I didn’t think was acceptable. Apart from us there was only one other table occupied, so I may be a little bit more understanding if they were busy. However, that being said the coffee and cake have always been very good and it is always nice and calm (no screaming children).

I noticed this gem whilst driving and told my friend as we are constantly seeking a convenient place to meet for a catch-up between Beckingham and Woolwich. We regularly meet in Blackheath Village, but this year, 2018, we decided to meet at the Royal Standard, Blackheath. Towards the back of the shop, we ordered herbal tea and coffee. I spotted a baking tray of freshly baked mince pies, straight from the oven. I bought one and asked 'did you bake them yourself? ' 'yes, I did. I have baked most of the cakes here '. The mince-pie was not sweet and the pastry beautifully, flaky. The ambience was quiet and peaceful, but that could be because we were there on a weekday. The service was great. Mara was clean, tidy and the seats, plush and comfy. Mara has beautiful interior design pieces for sale, art-deco to contemporary items. If you live or on a short break in the Blackheath, Greenwich, Charlton, North Greenwich or Woolwich area and fancy venturing out for a tea break this is a great place. I know I will be returning as I wish I could have tried all of the cakes.
