Bidra med feedbackVery casual dining in a space shared with Grass Valley Brewing. Good selection of beers and decent pub food. The fried chicken plate was really quite good, juicy on the inside, crisp on the outside. I really liked the vinegar based cole slaw and crispy cornbread sides. We dined on a Sunday and there was a pretty good jazz ensemble playing from 4-6 pm.
Best chicken dinner around! This is so yummy and made with organic chicken and fabulous gluten free breading. All house made--cornbread with a touch of cayenne and kosher salt keeps me coming back. Great eats. Quality ingredients.
The fried chicken which is one of the main dishes, is disappointing and pretty lousy and not worth it actually. KFC or Popeyes makes better fried chicken if that's even a measure. If you leave your chicken for 10-20 minutes, as in take it to go, you couldn't even eat it cause it's frozen chicken that becomes rubber when it gets to room temperature. Too much rubbery fat too. They have strange hours, never know when they decide to close on a moment's notice, just because it's slow or they feel like it.
I want to love this place but there is consistently something that happens between the people behind me that get their meal first when we just order fries, to burnt poutine, etc. Initially great to when they first opened....
I tried going there on a Friday night and they were sold out of chicken sandwiches at 5:3O PM. Made a second attempt with success, but was disappointed in the quality and price of the those glorified McChickens. The thigh had weird gooey muscle in every bite. The fries they served us were super small like maybe the end of the bag, but I highly doubt because they were all that size. I don’t think I could recommend The Roost which is unfortunate. A good chicken sandwich shouldn’t be $17 of small muscle meat
