Ryke's Bakery, Catering Cafe Grand Haven

I really enjoy the cake at this bakery, but my most recent experience was disappointing. I wanted to order a birthday cake for my fiancée and was told that I could only purchase a pre-made cake because it was late in the week. I decided to go ahead and buy one, but was informed that they couldn't personalize it with "happy birthday" until the next day. I agreed and planned to pick it up for our family gathering. However, when we opened the box the next day, it was not the cake I had selected. I was disappointed that it wasn't the chocolate on chocolate cake I had chosen. While mistakes happen, the service was also unfriendly and cold, which was unexpected from a bakery. I will still give them another chance, but I hope for better service in the future.

The restaurant is mediocre at best. The food was not good and did not seem fresh. They could definitely improve by getting better products from Meijer. Some of the staff are friendlier and more helpful than others. Customer service needs improvement, as noted by multiple reviews. The service was described as cold by one reviewer. I wanted to support a small local business, but I will need to find a different one to frequent.

Don't bother going to this place if you're craving donuts. They hardly make any and they seem to focus more on pastries. I can't recall a single time they actually had donuts available after 10am. I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone. If they want to be a donut shop, they should definitely change their name to a bakery instead.

In the city for a day or so and asked for the best donut. rykes was recommended. on Wednesday morning at 8:30 a.m., sign on the wall said: "Buy two, get a free donuts." So I said why not! it was said that the board was not deleted and that was something special yesterday. the nice young lady behind the counter cleared the board clean and then asked what I want. no specializations today because they were not as slow as yesterday. it just felt weird to me. How about honoring a special one and then clearing the board? Anyway, I ordered two donuts (in each case) and after eating I'm pretty sure they were from yesterday. the icing was discolored (blown) and art dense. the taste was okay. I probably had higher expectations, and this day these expectations were not fulfilled. I. that's my decision.

Lady was kinda disconnected right from the second she answered my call, told me she was overwhelmed and to hang on. Then proceeded to ask me what I was looking for, me not knowing much about cakes didn't know how to describe what I was looking for exactly, and I could tell the lady was getting annoyed. I was finally able to come up with an idea when she says they can't do it due to copyright issues...Umm...What? since when is a Minecraft character not allowed? Walmart does Disney, and other characters..Crazy! She then proceeded to tell me to call a Muskegon shop (mind you, I live in Holland) to ask if they can do it there. I was like sure, I'll just call a different Bakery where they really want my business.
