Bidra med feedbackI never post reviews but feel this is a public health announcement. I ate dinner at The Barn on Sunday, October 22nd. We were in the Hartford area for a lacrosse showcase. My son and I split the truffle fries as an appetizer, he ordered the chicken fingers and Mac&Cheese. Since we were from out of town I asked for suggestions. The waitress said their seafood is so fresh that it comes in and then right out the door. So I ordered the seafood paella. HUGE MISTAKE! At 3 am I awoke to horrible abdominal pains. I began violently vomiting and did not stop for the next 12 hours. Not to mention we were flying out the next morning and so I had to travel in that condition. I literally have broken blood vessels in and under my eyes from throwing up so violently. I was was absolutely miserable to say the least and I 'm just starting to feel normal, almost 3 days later. This needs to be addressed by this restaurant as I can see from past reviews this is not the first time this has happened. For what it 's worth, my son was not sickened by the chicken fingers and Mac&Cheese so I guess if you 're going to eat here just steer clear of the seafood. I informed the restaurant the next day and they refunded my meal, which I appreciated, considering I lost 3 days of work, and gave me a gift certificate which I 'm happy to share with someone as I will never, ever return.
My friend came to visit from New Orleans, and I wanted to show her a really nice place for lunch in Granby, sadly the day we went they were closed. We were both starving, I did a quick Yelp search, that led us to The Barn. I'm not so sure of the history of the barn, but it does look like a barn from the outside. Inside is a bit more modern, with some cool lights and a spacious space for sitting. We were greeted by a gentleman who guided us to our table. I noticed it wasn't particularly clean inside, there were greasy marks on the wall, and crumbs on the floor. Off the specials menu, we each got the Tuscan Chicken White Bean Soups and we got the Autumn Watercress Salad to share. We also got hot coffee each. The waitress brought us the coffee in dirty mugs. I'm not sure why I didn't say anything, but there were dry coffee spills all down the side of my mug. I have never seen this in my whole life of drinking coffee. Next she brought us the soups, this was another huge letdown. The soups came in little cups, that were filled all the way to the brim. When she placed down the soup in front of my friend, it splattered everywhere, on my friend's arm, top and pants. There was no apology, she didn't seem to notice her heavy handed behavior. I have never encountered something like this before. This soup honestly wasn't my favorite. I ate it, because I was starving, my friend didn't touch hers. It didn't look fresh at all. It looked like a bunch of left overs that were thrown together. The Autumn Watercress Salad, was ok. But the stems weren't cut off the watercress, which I didn't like. I did enjoy the goat cheese in this salad. Overall, this was a super disappointing experience the barn. I will for sure not be returning here again.
The inside is really cool. Our waitress was nice enough. I ordered a burger with a gluten free bun. They brought it out with a regular bun and I unfortunately ate a couple bites of it before deciding there was no way it was gluten free. Our waitress took it back and it was brought back with a gluten free bun. But the bun was very cold, assuming it just came out of the fridge and was avoiding cross contamination which is appreciated but it could have at least been microwaved or something. It was cold cold. There was no mention of the mix up or at least an apology. And after all that, it wasnt great. We had come here because they had gluten free options. I imagine it was because they were busy, but still. Dietary restrictions: They aren't taken very seriously.
Marisa did a wonderful job, great food suggestions and even better drink suggestions! We will be back to see Marisa again! Thank you!! Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5
Do NOT order eggs benedict they do not know how to poach eggs. the eggs were not runny and there was not enough sauce for the dish, terrible. my friends enjoyed their omelettes.
