Pizzeria La Vecchia Gioia

We ate here 4 times for the six days we were here in Gioia. It was convenient to our hotel, but we returned for the food. We loved the pizzas, bruschetta and salads. The wait staff were so friendly, trying their best to communicate in English while we used our very limited Italian. They made our week fun and enjoyable, smiling each time we returned again. The pizzas are definitely the stars of the show. But the atmosphere is wonderful, too, with interesting historical photos of Gioia and lots of old tools adorning the walls.

Tasty food, very warm staff (after a shy start), and a very low bill at the end. What more could I ask?? We were two couples, including an Italian speaker which helped the evening flow nicely. We ate a variety of antipasto dishes first, followed by a couple of pizzas and a salad. Everything was delicious the flavours in the hot antipasto dishes defying identification but we all wanted more. Gnocci, mushrooms, mixed veg all perfect. The local wine was very drinkable too, and at leaving time the host pressed a limoncello liqeur on us at no charge. A total bill of 49 euros left us amazed, because it was our best meal at any price so far in Italy.

We stopped in without reservation for evening meal. We were immediately seated and offered menus and treats of olives and tartalli. The wait staff were very friendly and tried very hard to use their English and us our Italian to order. The pizza was great and they were happy to split dishes. They had wine, beer and soda all to everyone’s liking. Salad also tasty. We sat outside in a very pleasant patio with umbrellas. Couldn’t have asked for more! Thanks!

We have recently visited this delicious place with a friends. The atmosphere was Incredible, for those who want to find themselves in the heart of southern hospitality. Pizza was incomparable, wine refined, mild and sophisticated.We would for sure return there and advice it to our friends. P.S. Grazie ,Gianni .

Location is good. Good selection of beers and pizzas. But the service was awful, we were 5 and talks of two got the same amount of antipasta, then we waited 45 mins for average pizzas, never again
