Bidra med feedbackAbsolutely terrible. There are so many good places to eat in Galena. We originally were going to eat at fried green tomatoes, but they did not open until 3 PM, so we thought we would try the Mexican. I did not take the time to read the reviews, because that is just how I roll. But I certainly will do a quick check of reviews in the future. Sometimes I disregard a few bad reviews, because I know that some people are just very critical. But honestly this is maybe the worst restaurant we have ever eaten at. First of all, we had to ask for a table to be wiped off. Next I asked for water, and I was brought a bottle of water, which I was charged for. Next I ordered a taco salad, that did not have cheese, or beans, and very little beef. I believe it was $13.99. When I asked for salsa, the server replied that they were out of mild salsa? A Mexican restaurant, out of salsa? The salad itself, which I would think would be impossible to screw up, was way less tasty then I can make for myself in my own kitchen. We love to go to taco John’s for taco salads, and believe me taco John’s is way better. For half of the price. This salad was less than mediocre. There was no complementary chips and salsa that are the standard in most Mexican restaurants. Let me make the suggestion to go to Los Aztecas instead, if you want Mexican in Galena.
Our first time in Galena. It was a Monday and only a handful of restaurants were open. Walked into Ayalas for an early dinner. We were greeted immediately by the bartender. The place was practically empty. We ordered a Modelo and a margarita. The margarita literally did not have any tequila. They brought us a bowl with tortillas chip crumbs. Yes, what was left at the bottom of the bag of chips. Same for the salsa. It was dry pieces of tomato mixed with water. After seeing this, took my chances and ordered a torta al pastor. What they brought me was a burger bun smeared with a sauce. “No Meat”. Wow! Place is like other. What a disaster. unbelievable. I feel disgusted.
We go to Galena on Fridays to eat with our family. We have always wanted to try this place. The first time we went there it was hot out and they only have fans for cooling so we said we would try it another time. Well it was cool this time so we tried it. And the food was awful especially for the price. For a “Mexican” restaurant the choices on the menu were pitiful. Tacos and quesadillas was about it. Then they had some random Italian and random American items. Also they ONLY except cash! Who does that really? Must be some illegal operation?! Atmosphere and staff were good. Won’t be going back.
The meat was tough and not tasty at all. The orange margarita looked totally different than the picture. To top it all they only accept cash. Come on folks get in the 21st century!
Service was good, fairly priced...but had a bad experience with a local guy. We just wanted to enjoy our drink...not have a stranger sit at our table and bother us.
