Bidra med feedbackThe UVA restaurant is located in the Vine hotel in central Funchal. On the top floor you benefit from fantastic views across the city, especially at night. There is also a nice bar to enjoy a cocktail before you go in for dinner. The restaurant itself is slick and modern but these larger hotel restaurants can be lacking in the atmosphere generated by their smaller counterparts. The food offer is what you would expect although the night we visited several fish dishes were unavailable. My main was chicken based, with half cooked Asian style and the other half tandoori. You are probably thinking that these two flavours would not compliment each other…..……,,you would be right, and to add insult to injury there was no rice side dish available so mashed potatoes had to do. The Asian dish was actually very tasty and worthy of its own place on the menu (with rice). The tandoori offer was dry and lacked any inkling of Indian seasoning. The mashed potato was a complete mismatch and simply did not belong on the same plate. To be fair this was a side dish ordered by me but it was, in my defence, in the absence of anything else. On a positive note we did enjoy a very nice bottle of wine. To end the night we ordered two coffees and two of the most expensive brandies on the menu (27 euros each). Guess what, they only had enough brandy for one glass, which my wife took……… maybe that’s why I am so grumpy!!!! I don’t think this is necessarily a bad restaurant but this was the poorest experience of our 14 day holiday, give this a miss there are much better options in Funchal.
We had a great experience at Uva. There are extensive options for wine by the glass. The food is fresh, flavorful, and beautifully presented. Though there weren’t any vegetarian entrees on the menu, the chef put together the perfect meal for me.
Great food, fantastic wines and helpful staff. One thing... while eating outside between inside and the poolbar we were between 2 different kinds of music, that was a bit irritating!
Very disappointed with the service as it was non existent, staff were friendly enough when they came to the table but otherwise we were left with no service or attention, we waited for over 20 minutes just to get the menu. Extremely poor for an expensive restaurant like this. We do not recommend it and will not visit again.
