Bidra med feedbackI ordered the Shepard 's Pie. The order took a very long time. The restaurant didn 't look too busy. The wait staff are friendly, but everything takes very long. My fiancé ordered coffee with an extra side of hot water. The water had oil residue some stains inside the cup. It 's the same cup they use for the sauces, so they might have used that but didn 't notice the oil. So far it 's ok, not the best what I expected for The Ritz
I didn't actually drink/eat at the Ritz, but the outside tables across from the Jardim Municipal do make it very tempting. If you do go there in the evening though, be warned there will be live music: a singer, or a guitar player, who will do the same tunes in turn. Every night. Cruise ship passengers will probably enjoy it as they will be gone within a few hours, but if you do go, I consider you an accomplice of the noise assault: the least you should do is spare a thought for the poor sods who have rented a room nearby and whose evenings have been vandalized as a result. There are so many times you can hear The Girl From Ipanema before invoking the Geneva convention. (Smiley implied throughout this review, but you're still an accomplice. Owe up to your responsibilities)
This is the perfect venue to pause for drinks or snacks to the accompaniment of live guitar music. On Fridays and Saturdays the famous singer Sian Lesley hosts an excellent value show time evening entertainment and meal (booking required) not to be missed!
A nice café with wonderful seating outside. The coffee is very good and the sweets are quite big and of average quality.
For what it was, The Ritz was disappointing and overpriced. There are lots of authentic restaurants all over Funchal, offering up amazing dishes. In comparison to these, The Ritz pales in comparison. I had the chowder and it was nice enough, with just one lonesome prawn, but lots of cod and salmon through it. The homemade soda bread was a nice touch. The service was chaotic and on the slow side, and staff weren 't the friendliest. The cakes looked magnificent and The Ritz may well be a nice spot for cake and tea. But for lunch, the quality just didn 't merit the prices. All of the charm comes from the dramatic exterior; the eye-catching 'Ritz ' sign spelled out in fluorescent bulbs, the beautifully tiled wall. It looks beautiful, there 's no doubt about it. But, sadly, that is where the impressiveness of The Ritz ends.
