Cocorico - Funchal

The wine, cheese and meat were fine. They have limited cheeses from France because of Covid 19. We booked through The Fork but discovered that neither the meat and cheese the main dish of the restaurant, nor the advertised main courses were on the discount that we expected. Only a few ‘nibbles’ from the wine menu applied. Beware.

Trying to avoid the restaurants offering more of the same in the old town we came across this place. Really great welcome, and a lovely plate of cheese, topped off with an amazing cafe gourmand. A great French gem. Thank you very much.

Just stumbled across this little winebar/restaurant while walking through the old town in search of a light lunch, and something different from the usual fare. Inside we felt like we'd been somehow transported to a small French town, with the wonderful selectio of French products on the menu and displayed in refrigerated cabinets. We settled for the plate of cheese and charcuterie which was delicious washed down with a very pleasant half litre of house wine. We had a very interesting chat with the lady joint proprietor she and her husband are French who regaled us with stories of the complexity in shipping French cheeses to Madeira. We stayed for the excellent desserts and a coffee. Will definitely be back for more, and wish them every success.

Great small spot at the end of the Rua de Santa Maria. We went in for lunch, had 1/2 l of tasty red wine, a bottle of sparkling water and a cheese/meat platter to share (15Euro). Great french products, like paté en croute, gruyere, salamis, many homemade. A lunch menu for <10Euro was also possible. We had some room for dessert, we thought. So we ordered the Cafe Gourmet with some little sweets on the side ...what we got was overwhelming, but in a good way (see photo)!!! The french couple certainly love quality food and service. We paid altogether ~40 euro 's incl tip. Would highly recommend going here, and reward their effort to create a little France in Funchal, without the touting of all the other tourists oriented places.

Really amazing place. Love the products and the staff is really great and friendly. Love everything about it. A explosion of different tastes.
