Bidra med feedbackRestaurant is set in a great location. The food was excellent both the set menu and carte. Unfortunately my wife’s Martini had ants on the slice of lemon. No apologies from the waitress. The only let down where the staff didn’t smile and know what each other were doing! Some confusion on who was serving who! The wine list was excellent the Clos de Rose Rose was superb.
Lunchtime meal. Slightly disappointed. Firstly my martini and lemonade had 3/4 ants on the slice of orang, So returned it, no apology offered and no fresh bottle of lemonade provided when it eventually arrived . Staff appear very brusque and unfriendly, especially the waitress with dark hair. I felt afraid to ask them for anything as it seemed like it was too much trouble , Even though it wasn’t busy. My husband had the 3 course set menu and his food was good. I had the steak and it was cooked to perfection and came with a few small potatoes and very few vegetables on the side. The menu is small and not much to choose from . My husbands dessert included Tiramisu which was nothing like it should be. It’s very expensive and I didn’t come out feeling full. I wouldn’t return here. I suppose people come here for the vineyard setting.
Romantic setting in a vineyard, although the dining room is modern and a less interesting with an associated outside dining area. Tables well spaced. We made use of the outside space for preprandial drinks before taking up an indoor table. Fortunately on our visit there were no smokers in the outside space and this would have significantly altered our dining experience. There are no fixed menus and therefore ordering a la carte seemed to be a relatively expensive option given no starter was much less than 20 euros. Food was excellent and service was cheerful and attentive. I would recommend this establishment for a special occasion if eating locally. Wine selection is extremely limited for this type of establishment and mostly a choice of their own production plus a sprinkling of wines from the rest of France.
Today, we visited the Clos des Roses for the second time in a year and experienced a true highlight of our trip to the South of France.The Clos des Roses is part restaurant, part hotel and part vineyard. You can taste their wine in the restaurant (including red, white or rose). We have not stayed in the hotel, thus cannot tell anything about it. The whole compound is located slightly outside Frejus. You will have to take a sharp turn off the main road to enter through the main gate alongside an alley of trees.The restaurant's set-up is slightly different than the usual southern French design, with modern paintings mixed with older pictures. Tables are generously spaced in a way that no other visitor would trouble you during your dinner.Personell is very friendly, timely in serving you and they did not let us wait beyond what is to be perceived normal. Our rusty French was no cause for concern for them at all, though they would also be able to converse in English, I am sure.The dinner itself consisted of a delicious variety of starters, main courses and desserts, each of which fascinated the whole family and made the night unforgettable. I think the dishes they serve aim at concentrating at the ingredients' own taste and smell. We had a Tuna Tataki, beef Rossini and pistacchio fendants. What seemed a bit overwhelming on the menu turned out to be everything we could ask for.Who should go eat at the Clos des Roses? Not everyone. If you are looking for a junky burger, some home-made tasty fries or a simple bite on the side to close the day, you might feel more at home somewhere else. The Clos des Roses is not an over-the-top fancy place, but the food deserves enough attention from you to sit down for a couple of hours and cherish each component in its own. I can recommend it for a visit with family, friends or your loved ones. However, I would not take any small toddlers with me - it just would not fit.The five of us paid roughly 350 EUR for 3 courses, drinks and some wine. Whether you find this to be too expensive or not, I leave up to your own judgment.Would I go back? Certainly so, but not as often as that it loses it "special" flair.
A great romantic dinner for two next to the fireplace. We were guests of the hotel and I would normally refrain from eating at a hotel restaurant since they have a captive audience - but this place is a destination in itself. The service was friendly and not pompous. The presentation was a work of art. The flavours and quality of food was excellent.
