Bidra med feedbackWe arrived in the Fountainbleu Chateau at about 11:30 a.m. only to be turned away until 2 p.m. I guess they were taking a two hour lunch break that day. The temps were near freezing with a brisk wind and no way to get out of the weather at the chateau. We spotted Chez Bernard across the street and beelined for the cafe. We were welcomed at the door by the owner, "Big Boss", to whom we explained the situation. We didn't want a meal, but had been shut out of the Chateau and just wanted a place out of the cold and maybe a hot drink. We were immediately shown to a table and brought Chocoat Chaud made with steamed milk. We got an order of pomme frites, too. Slowly the cafe filled with local patrons for lunch and stranded Chateau tourists we recognized from the city bus. The staff was extremely understanding and gracious, checking on us periodically. We literally sheltered with these kind people for two hours. Some of the staff spoke very little English which can be seen as rude. But we experienced none of that. Perhaps a bit of shyness because of the language barrier and kindness and understanding of the situation. Afterward, we were able to get an afternoon tour in at the Chateau. If it hadn't been for the graciousness of this cafe, we would have been forced to go back to Paris and have our day ruin. Chez Bernard saved the day, literally for us. Merci beaucoup.
Tried to get a table for lunch after visiting the chateaux. They just couldn't be bothered and were abrasive and downright rude. We waited and waited then walked out in disgust after being spoken to in the foulest of ways. Maybe they don't like the English or want us in their restaurant.
Really good place. Came here bcuz of tripadvisor's comments and it was all worth it. Wanted something quick before visiting the chateau and found quality food and great service. Just in front of the castle we went for just a dish each bcuz we didnt want to lose too much time.Took noix de saint jacques, supreme and the plat du jour (fish) which were all great choices.Everything was so tasty and the waiter and waitress were all welcoming and smiling. Price was like 100 eur with coffee. Didnt need to order anything else bcuz we felt full enough.
We had lunch here after a long trip getting to Fontainebleau. (Our fault, wrong train and the further delays) finally after getting off the bus this was our first stop. It was 1pm and time for refreshments. There were four of us and we .decided to have lunch before exploring the Chataeu. One of our party had the entree of melon and Parma ham, it was a very big serving for a starter, the rest of us had the hamburger, medium rare. We all declared this very good. We also had a pitcher of Chardonay, the waitress asked if we wanted large or small, we said large, this was about 1000 ml and reasonably priced.
When visiting Fontainebleau this will be a nice place for a lunch after a visit to Chateau. Good menu with quality food, nice selection of starters, main dishes and deserts. We liked a lot! Thank you!
