Bidra med feedbackWhen we arrived, a server greeted us and asked if we had a reservation and if we would like to sit inside. My boyfriend is Romanian and understood much of what he was saying, to an extent. The server realized we were not Italian and asked us if we had a green pass (covid certificate). We did not, and told us we had to sit outside. Knowing this coming to Italy, we were very understanding. Our server was very attentive and was respectful, and we had a delicious dinner. However… we watched to see if they were asking other people for a green pass. They did not. Only when they did not speak Italian did they ask. Even some Italians held out their phone ready to present it and they did not look, and sat them down inside right away. It was was extremely disheartening to see this, as if this green pass was not made to be equal to everyone. It was some form of discrimination if you ask me. It made the overall experience bad, unfortunately, which is why I give two stars..
We came here almost completely unprepared. All we knew was that this is a place for locals and they prepare some local speciality. They dont really speak English but with a bit of hand waving and Google translate we managed to order. I have to mention here that the lady running around was probably the most sincerely friendly waiter I met in a long time. The presentation of the food could be better but this is a place for locals not Instagram lovin ' teens and when you take a first bite of pruiscutto, pork or their famous bread pancakes you don 't really care anymore. We finished with some deserts that are as perfect as everything else. A , I will not hesitate to come again next time when I 'll be in the area.
We came here so that a couple of visitors could try some local dishes (testaroli and panigacci). It was my first visit too. The menu is plain: some simple appetizers, testaroli as first course, panigacci with cheese and cured meats, a few different meat options (mixed grilled, a tagliata etc), cakes. We opted for one of the two set meals (three tastes of testaroli, panigacci with cheese and cured meats, panigacci with Nutella, water, a soft drink, coffee, 20 euros). The testaroli were average, on par of what one could cook at home buying precooked testaroli to boil and dress. The three sauces used to serve them were olive oil and Parmesan (plain and OK, but oil and cheese tasted average of not below), a decent mushroom sauce and a so-so pesto (but La Spezia is not the best place for pesto dishes). The panigacci followed, really plentiful. The cheeses served were really plain (pretty standard cheapish stracchino and gorgonzola), and also the cured meats were truly average (with a mention of the ham, which I liked). A comment about the cheese, being a cheese lover: opting for soft cheeses picked with a touch more care (and more tastefully ones) could make these dishes more interesting, at marginal increase in the costs. Eventually the Nutella was brought in, and we moved onto it. Overall an average but decent place food taste wise, which cannot go wrong as long as you come here knowing what to expect. Notably, the amount was truly plentiful, with panigacci, cheese and cured meats coming in until we gave up eating, literally. Good value for money.
I flew from the US to join my family for a Christmas meal together for the first time in 5 years. I was very excited to come here, but I was very disappointed. The appetizers were mediocre at best. Their rice pie (typical ligurian specialty) was dry and old, the Polenta with mushrooms seemed like it was heated up in the microwave right before serving, it was under-seasoned and the mushrooms tasted like they were from a jar you'd find in a grocery store. The grilled eggplant and zucchini were decent, but the oil they used to dress them was not extra virgin olive oil, but some generic variety. Very bland. The vegetable pie was the only positive highlight of the appetizer round. The meat ravioli with red sauce were quite good and satisfying. I would eat them again. The vegetable cannelloni dish was a disaster. It seemed old, reheated, and the flavor just wasn't there. The lamb cutlet was simply awful. Probably the worst lamb I've ever had in my life. It was tough, chewy and rubbery. What a shame. The grilled meat and sausages instead were quite tasty. Again a bit under-seasoned, but at least it tasted fresh. The dessert round was another disaster. The waitress went around the table to get the dessert order and then came back to let us know they were already out. She then said they had some Tiramisu and Catalan Custard. That was arguably the worst Tiramisu I've ever had in Italy. So disappointing. It definitely ended the meal on a bitter note. The atmosphere was chaotic, and they crammed way too many people in those small rooms. This place might be good if there's no-one else there, but they definitely took on more than they could chew with this Christmas meal and I will not recommend this place to anyone.
