The Deck - Flinders

Date/time of visit: 5 January 2024 at 6:30pm This was an ok place to have dinner. Food was fine but probably not worth the price point. We ordered the classic fish and chips with coleslaw, and the burger. While the fish was nicely battered the price point of $33 was not worth it. It had a small handful of chips. The coleslaw was dry (there was no dressing but there was a side of sauce gribiche) and had a strong taste of fennel, which was off putting (fennel is fine but this had too much). The burger tasted good. There was a small food mess under the table that had not been cleaned away; and the table looked like it had been wiped down with a dirty cloth. Ordering food was done at the counter. Staff were fine. We did not have a booking and the venue did fill up quickly. Price point to food quality in my opinion, it was overpriced for what you got.

Unfortunately our meals were disappointing and definitely not worth the prices charged. I ordered the rockling, and it a small piece of fish came out rock hard. It had clearly been frozen and then overcooked. My friend ordered the zucchini flowers which arrived with half of the plate empty and minus the zucchini flowers she expected. The staff discounted two of our meals. But There are so many great places to eat on the Mornington Peninsula. The Deck should get back to basics and serve better quality food.

The quality of food has definitely gone downhill. I ordered the baked pumpkin with no goats curd it arrived 25 minutes later with goats curd. No bottles of Still water “sorry we only have tap water”. My husband ordered mussels and the serving is smaller than it used to be, served in a bowl of stock and far too many whole raw cherry tomatoes, with one piece of chorizo. My children’s spaghetti marinara (kids size charged at an adult price) had very little seafood (2 prawns and 1mussel). We also ordered a raspberry lemonade which never arrived. The food does not match the price you pay and the inexperienced staff make for an overall unsatisfactory visit. I’d say best to avoid until standards improve.

Pork belly was absolutely shocking, no flavour, tiny serve. Not justified for the price at all, only thing going for this place was how quick it came out. Dont get the overpriced meals if you come here. Just exploit the service.
