Over the past three weeks, my husband and I have eaten at Alla Vecchia Maniera five times (well, technically once we took the farinata to go . Utterly charming, it 's a cozy, family-run business that 's occupied this spot of the centro storico of Finale Ligure for over forty years (the current family has been operating it for the last twenty . Tomorrow evening will mark our last meal there before we leave Finale for other points in Italy. I am sad just thinking about it... Farinata is something Americans don 't know. You have to spend time in Piedmont or Liguria to get to know this chickpea based savory pancake delight, often served with fresh-ground pepper atop. I first tasted it five years ago in Torino. But the stuff made in-house at Alla Vecchia Maniera is far and away the best I 've ever had. My Torinese husband and mother-in-law agree. Behind the main piazza and a few steps down from the cathedral of Finale, the sign above the door reads, simply, FARINATA VINI. Go there. As many times as you possibly can. And bring an appetite. Thursday through Sunday ONLY. There are just nine tables. Reservations strongly recommended and because the Italians don 't turn tables the way Americans do, best to arrive right when they start serving at 7:30 PM.
Book early (weeks early) for an outside table on the weekend. great food and the owner dude actually still goes and buys fish every day
If you want to eat the real Ligurian flour, both classic and with the addition of other ingredients (we took with cod and fresh artichokes) you have to come here is the top of the top! and also the menu is great, only the embarrassment of choice!
Exquisite and clean, kind welcome, excellent value for money
