Black Cherry Smokehouse - Fairfax

REAL Southern-style BBQ in Southern Minnesota. It's like Heaven on Earth. 22 miles from New Ulm. So, so good- it is like a dream. I had to go back a couple of days later just to make sure it is real. So I went back again, and it was just as good- if not better.

Legitimate BBQ in the middle of nowhere, stopped by on the way to Jeffers Petroglyphs, the ribs were flavorful and moist, the brisket, even though we were there right when they opened, looked as though it was a day old and a little dry but still very good, would love to try it right out of the smoker, you know it's good when no sauce is needed. Will definitely be back even though its over an hour one way, if you love BBQ, go!

I was on the way to eat somewhere's in New Ulm on a Saturday night. Oofda....this was not happening! Every place from Kaiserhoff's to Green Mill looked busy. So outta town I go! I figure being a gambler, I would make my way to Jackpot Junction and grab some grub there. On my way I spotted this small hole-in-the-garage in Fairfax, Black Cherry Smokehouse. There isn't much seating at this bar and dining location, but seemed pretty busy with take out orders and busy enough to run out of prime rib this particular night. The pricing will seem a bit high, however for quality meats and dishes that are smoked, this is understandable. I had ordered the pulled pork grilled cheese with a side of beans. The sandwich had a great flavor and was filling enough for a man with hunger this night. The beans actually surprised me, meat is thrown in with the beans to spruce up what is already a great flavor!! If you're in the area and would like something new to try give this place a shot.

Awesome place to stop on your way by! Leslie (owner) was a great guy and is working solo! Takes some time but well worth the wait! Highly recommend and love me a good dive bar/restaurants!

This place is a real gem! Stopped here on a whim while passing thru the area. Brisket and ribs were truly amazing! Coleslaw and beans were excellent too. Owner and staff were also super nice and friendly even though they were busy. The owner offered to make me some fresh iced tea since they were all out when I arrived, brought it out himself with extra ice. The place is not cheap, but certainly worth paying a bit more for excellent quality. I'll definitely eat there again. You won't be disappointed!
