Historisches Gasthaus - Essen

If you are looking for a great meal in a cosy place this is it. Best steaks in Essen, great selection of Whiskys, Rums and other spirits,very friendly staff and a very interesting location.

The owners are a husband and wife couple, with the husband, Uli, taking the front of the house. He is incredibly charming, full of fun stories and jokes, and the food is to die for. Try the schnecken! (snails) I promise, you won't be disappointed. Every time I go to Essen I have to eat here at *least* once, often twice. Did I mention they finish their potatoes by boiling them in butter? Because hot damn, they are delicious. Can't recommend high enough. At the end of the meal there are a wide variety of whiskey and rum variants the host would be happy to tell you about. This place is magic. (Hint: call ahead)

During the EssenMesse fair we speed one night in Essen. We look for pleasent place for dinner, it was perfect. We cannot complain. Everything was perfect done , look exelent and taste grate. As Staff said steak realy had no fat no tendons. Snails was so good that I will remember them years.

The staff were friendly, helpful and jovial, the food, my first experience of Germanise own cooked food, I loved it. We had a huge muscle broth to share between three of us, which was amazing, then the most general helping of beautiful tender chicken salad I've had. The vege was fresh, chicken juicy seasoned well, and so good we ate there every night. The beer and wine was also great and very reasonably priced

Absolutely great. There's no place I'd rather eat. I'm looking forward to my next visit.
