Bidra med feedbackI sung here alone on a Sunday night in March 2017, while in Kaiserslautern in business. This restaurant was close to my hotel and had good reviews. My general experience was very pleasant, but a few things were unusual that I commented. It was... dark when I arrived and the restaurant's front door was lit with a motion detector, so it was dark until I got onto the door. Then when I opened the door to the restaurant, it was dark in the foyer until the motion detector turned on the light. I thought it was unusual. I waited in the door, but no one came to sit down, so I finally went to the bar and a harried server told me it was an hour. Since no one else was waiting and there were several open tables, I was confused by this answer. So I asked if it was an hour before I could sit, or an hour before I was served, and she said this. I said I'd wait and have a glass of wine. I was finally served, and it was a longer waiting period than I used to, but the harried server was very nice helped me navigate the entire German menu and place my order I had a nice mint soup, fillet prepared by alone, accompanied by fresh asparagus and potatoes with herbs. I had a local dry white wine, reasonable price to 2,90 euros. I noticed that there were only two servers that cover all tables. I came and she shared that the kitchen had only one cook and one helper. So they seemed undermined for the number of diners. The cook came out and checked on all tables towards the end of the service, and we had a nice conversation when he spoke something English. All in all, it was a nice culinary experience, and I would go back.
Here on Thursday, 19 May 16. The food was okay... not too exciting, which would make me return sooner than later. The main shell parts were SMALL compared to the BIG prices. Recommend the headaches to find this place (to park in the forest and go to the restaurant) and try one of the other big places in the area.
Nice place with the most friendly waiting staff ever! We've been here several times and it's always great food and friendly smile.
I dined here alone on a Sunday night in March while in Kaiserslautern on business. This restaurant was close to my hotel and had good reviews. My overall experience was very pleasant, but a few things were unusual that I'll comment on. It was...dark when I arrived and the front door of the restaurant was lit with a motion detector, so it was dark until I stepped up toward the door. Then, when I opened the door to the restaurant same thing it was dark in the foyer until the motion detector turned on the light. I just found this unusual. I waited inside the door but no one came to seat me, so I eventually walked to the bar and a harried server told me it would be an hour. As there was no one else waiting, and there were several open tables, I was perplexed by this response. So I asked if it would be an hour before I could be seated or an hour before I was served, and she said the latter. So I said I'd wait and have a glass of wine. I was eventually served, and it was a longer wait than I'm used to, but the harried server was very nice helped me navigate the all-German menu and place my order I had a lovely mint soup, filet of sole expertly prepared, accompanied by fresh asparagus and potatoes with herbs. I had a local dry white wine, reasonably priced at Euro. I noticed that there were only two servers covering all the tables. I commented on this and she shared that the kitchen had just one chef and one helper. So they seemed understaffed for the number of diners. The chef came out and checked on all the tables toward the end of service, and we had a nice conversation as he spoke some English. All in all it was a lovely dining experience, and I would go back.
Idyll is tucked on the outskirts of the east side of Kaiserslautern, fairly close to the Irish House pub. The restaurant is on the first floor of a nice hotel and the ambiance is of a nice German restaurant, but not too formal. I've been...to Idyll several times and each time is something new and delicious on the menu. My favorite is their venison (Hirsch), it seems to always be cooked perfectly. I have also ordered the schnitzel many times. Probably the best schnitzel I've had in years of living here. Most recently there was a venison dish with dumplings and red cabbage (Rot Kraut), I honestly almost ordered a second meal to take it home. The waiter recommended pairing it with a red wine (Schwarzreisling) that was perfectly balanced with the venison. Of note, we started that meal with a cream of Brussel sprouts soup, with cream fraiche, and a perfect piece of bacon. Also, the last two times we've gone to Idyll we've ordered dessert and it hasn't disappointed. The first time we had a coffee ice cream with fruit and the second time cherry ice cream cake. The chef makes all of the desserts in house and takes great pride in the presentation of all his food. The staff is very friendly and the cook normally comes out to check on the meal and make sure the meal is going well. It's clear Idyll takes pride in both the taste and presentation of the meal. I will definitely keep returning! Oh and most importantly (for some), they take credit cards!
