Dive into the flavours and spices of these dishes: Crispy Pork Belly with Asian Greens, Chicken with Papaya Salad, and Wok Tossed Soft Shell Crab. Very good value and friendly service!
Maggie’s is a small gem on Erskineville mall, quite popular with the locals. The interior looks a bit plain, but the food rarely disappoints.<br/ <br/ The four of us ordered fish cakes and curry puffs as a small starter. The fish cakes were delicious, and the curry puffs very nice. I am not a big fan of puffs, but still enjoyed them.<br/ <br/ As main we shared wok tossed soft shell crab, monk fish curry, and a papaya salad with battered fish. The soft shell crab was a delight and the fish curry very well done. The papaya salad was good, although a bit on the sweet side.<br/ <br/ Service was extremely friendly, I will certainly be back.
Very small casual byo restaurant (there's a BWS a few doors down, BYO $4 per bottle with the loveliest staff! Vegetarian spring rolls get a big thumbs up from me crispy on the outside, not oily, filling was flavoursome, light and fresh. Their menu is not extensive but they have a really awesome Chef's special menu. <br/ I would love to dine here more often but it is on the pricey side $18 for a pad see ew, $24 for a main meat dish. <br/ Not good for loud groups, great for low key dates ; <br/
It is great to see Maggie's open once again. They are not your usual Thai restaurant with the menu being very small in comparison to other Thai restaurants and just that little bit classier. The restaurant is very child and family friendly with dinner service starting around 5:30 so you can get in and eat early to get the young ones to bed.<br/ <br/ We ordered home delivery on this occasion and we very impressed with the quality of food delivered and how quick it was, especially on a Friday.<br/ <br/ I would recommend this place to anyone especially after a cheeky drink at the Hive Bar or the Rose.
Erskineville is one of Sydney's trendier suburbs with beards and skinny jeans as far as the eye can see. However it still maintains a lovely community feel, which extends into one of its gem restaurants: Maggie's Thai . This restaurant is a favourite among locals, which is probably the highest praise a restaurant can receive. Michelin stars are overrated just ask Lisa down the street what she thinks. The menu at Maggie's Thai is extensive with some awesome twists on the usual Thai restaurant staples. The stir fry section includes Lamb with Chilli Coconut Sauce and Crispy Pork Belly with Asian Greens. For starters, we opted for: Duck San Choy Bau Thai Fish Cakes For $4 each, the Duck San Choy Bau was an absolute winner. Fresh and rich at the same time, I could have eaten a platter of these quite happily. The Fish Cakes were fried to perfection and were nicely set off with a tangy sauce that had lots of chopped veges and peanuts for texture. We then stuck to the specials menu and had: Green Papaya Salad with Flathead Maggie's Duck The Green Papaya Salad was everything I love about Thai food. The freshness of the salad paired so well with the fried fish (I won't lie fried things are delicious). Mixed in with the green papaya were pomegranate seeds and fresh herbs, taking this dish to a whole new level. Maggie's Duck tasted just as decadent as it looked. The sauce had a lot of both sweet and sour going on and was perhaps a bit too rich. Luckily it was served on a bed of pak choi to cut through the heavy going duck meat and sauce. If you're in and around Erko, Maggie's Thai is guaranteed to serve something interesting on your plate. It will go well with a suitably ironic shirt and rainbow Wayfarers. The Particulars Maggie's Thai can be found at 75 Erskineville Rd, Ersekinville 2043 Open 7 days for dinner from 5pm, and lunch Wednesday Friday from 12pm. Mains $12 $28. BYOB.
