Gianni Al Vesuvio - Ercolano

Signed up for a tour on Expedia for Pompeii and Mt Vesuvius, small group and it includes pizza. What a treat to have pizza near naples where pizza was founded and on the way up to see the volcano. Also it gave us the chance to talk and mingle with other people in our group. They gave our group a choice of pizza and i got margherita. It was by far one of the best pizza's i had ever tasted. Albeit i normally am happy with sbarros. Very authenic and rich in tomato taste. Highly recommend. Turns out they are a couple of restaurants on the way up. Happy stomach. Best part i got to eat it all by myself. Highly recommend this place.

We spent eight days next door at the Sanfralu B B, and ate dinner at Gianni AL Vesuvio several times. I was surprised at how solidly good the food was, and how reasonable the prices were. The pizza con bufalo is amazing, as is the bufalo mozzarela appetizer. If you've never had authentic bufalo mozzarella, made from the milk of Mediterranean buffaloes, you're missing out. Blows traditional mozzarella out of the water with a firm exterior and creamy interior. Their pastas are perfectly al dente and seasoned nicely. The basil pesto pasta is especially good. The servers are very friendly, and the space is large, and utilitarian, yet comfortable. If you are staying in Ercolano, it's definitely worth a visit.
