Ochsen - Emmendingen

This is a real old-fashioned guest house from the old times (so I mean 1980s or earlier). I don't think that the decor has probably been updated since the 1980s and it doesn't matter at all. It is a cozy and functional facility, even with a regular table. You go for food and the food is always excellent. The proof is the packed tables, certainly every weekend (you can book before, although I don't know if the owners speak much English, so try your inn German on them. All traditional inns are available (we would call it pub food, and also local dishes. I can say that the carving is absolutely no second!

Although still a pleasant neighborhood guesthouse in a sleepy city near Emmendingen, I found the two times we were in the last two weeks that it is not quite as before Corona Hit. The menu is slightly backsclated, but you can still get all the usual regional favorites. The scavengers are not almost as good as other places (some others, not all), and one time I had gulasch with homemade sparrows I was disappointed in the whole plate. Avoid this when you're trying! The service is immaculate and slow, but perhaps the most telling sign that it is slipped that the place was always full every day of the week, now it is not even half full. Prices are about average for the area that can eat two, with a drink, for about EUR 45. Rumors it has the oschen will close in a year or so and the building will be demolished so that apartments can be built.

En famille franco-allemande, nous avons dîné dans ce restaurant typique de la région. Les portions sont copieuses et goûteuses sans que cela baigne dans la graisse. A recommander, le cordon bleu, les escalopes - Schnitzel et les pommes de terre sautées - Brägele ou en salade. Bières en bouteille ou nombreux vins régionaux à prix très doux. On reviendra. Das ist ein gutes Gasthaus! Traditionell, gemütlich und sehr gepflegt. Man bekommt sehr leckeres badisches Essen, einfach klasse. Leider sind die alkoholfreien Getränke (Cola, Spezi, Fanta usw.) zu teuer. Für Familien mit durstigen Kindern kann das kostspielig werden. Zuweilen gibt es auch Servicepersonal, welches überfordert ist. Trotz dieses kleinen Mankos, sehr empfehlenswert! :-)

Geheimtipp. Freundliche aufmerksame Bedienung in hellem und großzügigem Gastraum. Beeindruckende Theke. Das Essen ist im besten Sinn bewährte Hausmannskost mit frischen Zutaten.
