Bidra med feedbackThe ultimate in comfort food, Aviv Cakes and Bagels has a delectable range of beautiful pastries and breads in their window to lure you into the store. The smell of bread and pastry is so delicious, and this large bakery has a lot to choose from. You can dine in, but we chose a few yummy pastries to take home. <br/ <br/ The raspberry frangipane tart was so soft and aromatic, with a beautiful thin and crispy pastry case. Similarly, the pastry on the caramel walnut tart was equally as good. The nutty filling was simply amazing. My favourite however, was the poppy seed horseshoe pastry. Something different to my usual choices, this pastry was divine. The abundance of poppy seeds gave it a nutty flavour, and it was a moist and flavoursome filling inside the divine pastry. <br/ <br/ Aviv gets very busy, but the staff are friendly and helpful and service didn't feel rushed at all. The prices are quite reasonable, making this a lovely bakery to stop by for a sweet or savoury treat. I can't wait to return to try their amazing looking bagels.
Bagels and pastries are absolutely amazing. Always packed...because it’s that good. The cheese danish is my personal favorite, but the pear and chocolate cake is also amazing.
Tonight we had an amazing dinner around at a friends place and for dessert they served a tasty lemon tart from Avivs. I’m a fan of the lemon tart and while my favourite will always be my wife’s seriously tasty lemon version this one was pretty close to perfect in terms of the filling. Strong on citrus and presented very well. Pastry was a little hard but benefited from time resting outside of the fridge. A good option that you could claim as home made if you felt like cheating. <br/ <br/ <br/ <br/ <br/ Previous Reviews<br/ Called into Aviv Cakes for a few slices and cakes to take home for afternoon tea. This place has a certain classic appeal and as far as interiors go, I suspect, hasn’t changed much in recent times. The cake selections are quite traditional also with vanilla slices, bubka and plenty of fruit topped flans. <br/ <br/ We took home a chocolate bubka, vanilla slice and due to my fixation on trying to find the perfect fruit mince pie I nabbed me one of them to try.<br/ <br/ The bubka was delicious chocolate brioche like and wasn’t overly sweet which I very much enjoyed. There was also a enjoyable rich vanilla taste about the custard in the vanilla slice. Both of these I would have again. The fruit mince pie was a let down. It wasn’t anything to write home about... much better out there and also much worse.
When I was first introduced to challah, I didn't think it could get any more delicious. Well, it turns out that there was challah V2.0 sultana challah. Double the sweetness, and double the happiness. That's why Aviv is my happy place. It's impossible to be in the vicinity of the area and leave without getting something from Aviv. The bagels, chocolate babka, and fruit danishes and tarts are out of this world. Even the humble vanilla slice is a picture of perfection, and tasted like perfection!<br/ <br/ There's no hype to be associated with Aviv, just good old fashioned baking done with love. The ladies behind the counters are super friendly and helpful, and I really enjoy their interactions with return customers. It's such a wholesome and happy affair!<br/ <br/ Coffee definitely needs improvement but who really cares when the baked goods are what dreams are made of.
One of the cakes for my husbands birthday was a flourless chocolate number from here and it was so delicious my dieting sister who is about to get married practically ate half the cake. Great little discovery
