The Chief Jürgen and his team is doing a perfect job in this remote location. The dishes are really tasty and he is putting amazing creativity into developing the combinations and meals. It's always worth visiting it. It's one of my favorite places in southern Burgenland.
Our dear host at Burg Bernstein was concerned that we would have a wonderful experience for lunch and sent us to Harmisch, a little south of Bernstein, with the explicit instruction to have lunch at Gasthaus Csencsits. The experience was well worth the drive. The service was impeccable, the food wonderful and the care evident in both the way we were treated and the food itself was presented were exemplary. Congratulations to running a Gasthaus with that care and quality outside of a big city.
A delicious meal, which we sandwiched between TOMR the previous night and Saziani the next, so expectations were high. A shorter simpler menu here, with larger individual plates, but no lack of creativity or quality. First up were some in house products of extreme quality stunning beard, pork schmalz and speck an excellent start. Then a starter of smoked/cured trout with fennel, kohl rabi, papaya and mango interesting flavour combinations and a healthy way to follow the schmaltz. Next was an excellent dish of raw beef, peas and asparagus. Next up with a sheeps cheese raviolo with lamb ragu. This was one of the best dishes of our whole holiday and was brilliant. It turns out lamb ragu is something quite a few top places serve in the area, but this was the best of them. Followed by a main of rather good calf saddle with vegetables, millionaires tart and a delicious rhubarb/vanilla/cherry creme pudding. Wine list is the best I know of for Austrian reds, with a deep range of older bottles at fair prices. Great service from the maitre d', a touch reminiscent of Fred Astaire without the tap shoes. This restaurant are not easy to get to but worth the effort we stayed in an AirBnB in Tsaterberg, drove down, got a taxi back and then walked back in the morning to pick up the car through very nice nature filled woodland.
A taste experience very creamy adapted to the time-qualitaet. Excellent and always compiled with a lot of love the menu - because from one to the other nothing repeats itself. hr csencits is very thoughtful. the restaurant design in the season very tastefully adapted.
