Myself and friends visited on a Saturday morning. Looked a lovely space and not very busy. We all ordered poached eggs on toast with bits and pieces. First dish arrived and the eggs weren't cooked, not just a bit of white but the entire thing was still clear. We sent that back but when the rest arrived they were just as bad. One lot of eggs were so over done and none of them were drained which left the toast wet through and inedible. The bacon and mushrooms tasted of old fat. Even the coffee was extremely weak. Poor all round, sorry to say.
Whilst on a weekend in Skeg my husband and I visited for Sunday dinner. We are regularly in the area due to having our own caravan here and had been meaning to try Beachlands for a while. I had nipped in the previous day just to check if we needed to book a table for dinner and was told no just to turn up between 11.30 3pm. We arrived on the Sunday around 11.25, was greeted by what I presume is the manager and she took our order. £5.50 each for a small dinner. We both chose the chicken but there was also beef or pork to choose from. After reading some reviews about long waiting times and also reading the sign that was at the counter stating that they are not a fast food place and during busy times there may be a long wait, we had braced ourselves for a decent waiting time as there were a few tables already seated. We took our seats outside in one of their little huts and waited only 10 minutes before the first meal arrived, followed a couple of minutes later by the other. Not quite sure why they didn 't come together I 'm sure the young serving lad could 've carried two plates. I had to ask for another fork as there was something encrusted on mine but it was quickly replaced without issue. The food was decent for the price. Nothing special but there was a good plateful of it with two roasties, a ball of mash, carrots, peas and cauli, a big yorkie and about 3 slices of chicken with plenty of gravy. The only thing I 'd say is I found it all a little bland despite putting plenty of salt and pepper on. I presume they don 't season the cooking water which I always do for starchy products. Nevertheless we ate up and then returned our plates to the fella behind the counter. He thanked me and I left. I believe he does all the cooking by himself and he was just plating up what looked like scampi, which I must say looked lovely it was a good sized portion and there was a lot of salad on the plate too, clearly just waiting for the chips to be added. Although I probably wouldn 't order the roast dinner again I would certainly go back for some of their other offerings
We come to this little tea room every year. Yesterday we visited on the rainiest day of the summer my husband and I and our little dog. We were going to stand outside but the owner said no come in your dog is welcome. We had a lovely cup of tea and the loveliest bacon cob. We had a lovely chat with the owners who really are very welcoming. We'll see you again next year!
