Bidra med feedbackA lovely hotel this was our 3rd stay We were on a dinner B&B package. Waiter very mudley explaining the dinner allowance. For the 3 nights we were booked in for we asked for the bill to go to the 2 different rooms, this did not happen. Everything was split which was awkward and difficult as we drank and ate different things and it all has to be sorted out when we checked out! I do not eat either fish or meat and found the vegitarian selection quite poor which was disappointing.
We stayed at the Sidmouth Harbour Hotel on a two night break earlier this week. On both evenings, the food in the Upper Deck Restaurant was very good. Yes, it isn’t cheap but most customers would know that in advance but the food was beautifully cooked and presented and the staff were efficient, friendly and helpful. Moreover, breakfast on both mornings was of a similar high standard and again beautifully presented by friendly staff.
Menu is quite restricted and overpriced. We have visited on a couple of occasions previously and each time we go back we hope it has improved, but sad to say, it hasn 't. The service from the staf is good but the menu and specials are very basic. What is on offer is often overpriced for the meals delivered. We certainly don 't object to paying higher prices, but then you expect to get a better class of meal. For example £19 for a very basic Shepperds Pie without any vegatables (apart from a pot of peas) is a bit excessive. Hopefuly next time we go back the menu and pricing structure might have improved. but not to hopeful.
Finally got around to writing this...... well it was a birthday lunch and we had a great table with that amazing view of the town and the sea. Evan and Portia were great and looked after us perfectly. The kitchen also did a wonderful job and produced a perfectly cooked steak, the Sea Bass was spot on and the pan fried Hake a special that day) was great. There was a nice warm atmosphere to the restaurant and it was a great birthday lunch! Highly recommend.
We enjoyed our breakfasts, good choices. It was good to have such a good selection of fish for dinner and the side orders we had of green vegetables that we really enjoyed. However we were slightly disappointed with the desserts. Most of them were stodgy or boring but we did enjoy the chocolate fondant as it came with three raspberries and coulis! Panna Cotta, Creme Brûlée or Cheesecake would be a better choice for us, properly presented. We could have had a square of sticky toffee pudding with ice cream in the local pub.
