Bidra med feedbackAbsolutely terrible service by kayla. she took my order and then took 5 more before they started the drinks. they showed no effort to speed up the things – talk to anyone who was not needed when busy.
Had to go to Duke Eye Center I needed to stay over night. This was a great choice! Beautiful, large, CLEAN room. Staff was super nice. Only a short distance to Erwin Rd so very convenient! Awesome!!! Would recommend this hotel and this is where I would stay if I was returning!
Absolutely terrible service. My girlfriend gave the cashier $10 and the cashier gave her back 80 cents. My girlfriend told the cashier she gave her a $10 bill to which the cashier said no you gave me $6 and began to argue with my girlfriend. Everyone, look at the reviews and take tour business elsewhere. Theres a reason they have a low rating.
This was probably a fine hotel in the 1980s. Today it is dated and disappointing. Several things. First, don't book this hotel if you are looking for a hotel shuttle to Duke Medical Center. Although the Duke Med website notes it is operational, it is not, and has not been since COVID. This hotel and the medical center need to deconflict that. The Hilton Garden Inn about five miles away HAS a working shuttle, so book there if you don't want to deal with the parking at the Duke Med complex. Second, the rooms look like they were modernized at some point in the past but not the recent past. The overall HVAC plant here makes temperatures in the rooms inconsistent. There is a real feeling of humidity in the rooms. Yes, our visit was in August and yes, this is North Carolina, but I except a Hilton to have a better temperature seal against external weather. Third, the breakfast here is not complimentary. No argument with that, since the website clearly does not indicate its free. But for $16.00 per person I expect more offerings (and of higher quality) than was available during our stay. Rubbery eggs, undercooked bacon, and the usual array of breads and yogurts, juices and fruits. But its nothing special for the money; i've seen the same at lesser chain hotels who offer the breakfast for free. And here's a pro tip if you want to take something back to your room make sure to put it on your plate and THEN ask for a box. If you let the server scoop up your plate, and then try to put a muffin in a napkin for later, the maitre D will tell you that's not allowable. You have to pay for another plate. I mean COME ON Hilton, that's garbage. Also the worst coffee I've had in a major chain hotel in quite a while. It might not have been fresh, or the coffee itself is of low quality. Bottom line, when visiting Durham look elsewhere for accommodations. The Hilton Durham isn't the place.
This was my second stay here this year due to proximity to Duke Medical Center. There’s a reason this is the cheapest Hilton property nearby. I’m not sure if the ownership is just cheap or the management is the problem, but either way this hotel is not well run or in good condition. This hotel only has one working elevator and it isn’t safe. . It’s slow, jerks so much at floors that my handicapped husband nearly fell, doors shut without sensing and nearly crushed someone, and sometimes is out of service entirely. Lines often snake into the lobby with 15+ minute waits for the elevator. I was told by management in April that new elevators were being installed in May and in August nothing had changed. There are rooms on the first floor but the whole hallway reeks of smoke both cigarette and weed. The hotel seems to have been under renovation for quite some time and work is shoddy and not up to code. There are many spots with water damage visible in walls and ceilings. Several floors are covered in cardboard creating an ADA issue and a trip hazard. The mold smell in the room was overpowering. The lobby and renovated rooms look nice, but they seem to have just tried to hide major issues with some new paneling. Our bathroom faucet wasn’t even attached to the vanity. The rooms are clean, it’s the structure and plumbing that aren’t being kept up and are unsafe in my opinion. The restaurant food at the bar is actually not bad although service can be hit or miss. Avoid the breakfast buffet breakfast for two is nearly $40 and of lesser quality than your average roadside motel. I had two major issues this stay outside my comments on building condition and elevator. I was awakened at 2am the last night of my stay with someone trying to enter my room. This person then moved to banging loudly on the door across the hall and screaming to be let in. I called the front desk and was about to call 911 when security arrived since this person was irate and had tried to get into my room. Not a comfortable or safe sleeping environment I actually barricaded my door with furniture in case he managed to break the lock. It seems from other reviews this is not an isolated incident of intruders into rooms. The final straw was at checkout where my Hilton Diamond credits had not been applied correctly and I was overcharged. The front desk argued and blamed everyone from me to the check in person, to the manager, to Hilton corporate and could not produce a correct bill. I was told over and over that the hotel wouldn’t get reimbursed by Hilton. This was not only a time drain, but should not be the guest’s problem. I’m sorry I gave this place a second try.
