Lows Garden Restaurant - Duncan

Bought an order of chow mein, chop suey, spring rolls and lemon chicken.

Have got take out from here a few times. It's tasty and the employees are very friendly. Would definitely recommend.

Selection could be better. it seems to depend on what day you go & they would do better business if they stopped using MSG in their chow mein, or anything.

We have been going to Low Gardens for many years. There food is always fresh and is replenished often on the buffet for lunch and dinner. They do have a Seniors Price, which is very good to know and we go often.

My friend lives in Victoria and I live in Nanaimo so when we want to see each other, we meet half way in Duncan. Years ago, my car broke down in Duncan and as I waited for it to be repaired, I went for lunch and felt like Chinese, so the cab driver drove me to Low's Garden. As I walked in to a land that time forgot, I was unimpressed by the no frills look of cold brick and the red lamps hanging in desperation to be relieved of the years of over service to this Chinese dive. I was reluctant to stay and order food.I sat down and ordered from the menu. There was a combination for 1 where you can order up to 3 items for what is now $13.50. I thought that's a great deal, I ordered the combo of Sweet & Sour Pork, Chicken Chow Mein & Breaded Almond Chicken. The order arrived at my table with a mountain of goodness. The food was freshly made, the flavours well balanced and plentiful. As a result of this positive first experience, I told me friend we should meet there, half way, for lunch and to get caught up. The staff is very friendly, the owner is typical, guards her cash register, but friendly.We have returned many times over the year and actually went yesterday for a visit to get caught up. The server was friendly, engaged in conversation and provided excellent service over all. I would recommend this place if you stay away from the buffet and order off the menu, and enjoy great 'local' service...it is what it is, and if decor is not of importance to your dining experience. The value is very good.
