What's not to like - lovely location - lovely coffee, lovely apple pie and wonderful staff.
Sadly unimpressed with this restaurant. We were left standing around at the arrival point for quite some time while staff just kept ignoring us. It took a good few minutes before we were acknowledged and shown to our table. The gentleman who showed us to our table wasn't very polite or welcoming. He seemed flustered and annoyed. He more or less just threw a basket of bread on our table at one point! It took a long time before we were even given menu's to look at. When we were finally given menu's we all ordered a starter and a main. Starters also took a long time to arrive. we only ordered a board of cold cured meats so not quite sure why it took so long. The restaurant wasn't busy. Then, just as we began eating our starter, all the hot main dishes were brought out too. We tried to ask the waitress why we'd received the mains so soon, but she didn't appear to understand us, just giggled and walked away. It made it difficult to eat comfortably as the table was so overcrowded with all the dishes. And to prevent our mains going cold we had to rush our starters. The mains were not very nice. My husband and I ordered chicken with potato and a cheese sauce. The chicken and potato was VERY dry and tasteless and the cheese sauce was strange - it felt gritty. Personally I believe all items were precooked and simply reheated when we ordered. It certainly felt and tasted like they were. Our young sons ham tagliatelle from the children's menu was also strange and unappetising. Simply a slice of ham placed on top of plain pasta. He didn't enjoy it.Our teenage son was the only one to enjoy his spinach pizza. The price of over €145 for this meal really wasn't worth it and we wouldn't eat here again if we returned to Lac de Chalain.
Not much on offer, a few cold meats, salad and a bit of cheese. One hot option was available, wonderful staff and a great dessert. Located right next to the lake.
As we were staying on this campsite, we decided to eat out at the onsite restaurant, and were very glad that we did. The staff were welcoming and friendly, and even brought a high-chair for the baby. The food was good and the portions large, although we did have to remind staff a few times to bring drinks and dishes that we'd ordered. The experience was enhanced by a talented jazz combo playing for our personal entertainment.
