Homemade food fresh everyday! Doesn't get better than that!!! Been here a few times and I've never been disappointed. Last time I went I had a fish sandwich and omg so amazing! Hand battered fish was delicious. Definitely recommending this place to everyone. Friendly staff as well. You always feel like family which is also why I love Canterbury Palace so much!! Amazing food. Yum!
I'm a huge fan of greasy spoons for breakfast because I don't order anything fancy. This place is the perfect spot for a fast and casual breakfast for cheap! Southern omelette with hash browns. They don't pepper their gravy much which is awesome. I prefer to pepper it myself and it tasted really good. The sliced hash browns with the grilled onions and peppers were magnificent and buttery. Blue plate special. It was marinated pork tenderloin day. At $4, it's a steal and comes with Homemade mashed potatoes and a vegetable mix that I actually enjoyed eating. I hate mixed so I was very surprised. Yes, it's a dive but the employees are very sweet. The food digested well. Cash only.
I tried Canterbury Palace for the first time yesterday, but not for fried fish (I think I've been to Scotty Simpson's four times in the last two weeks, now...maybe it's only three times . I'm going back, if only to try a Blue Plate special for the day. I tried their beef stroganoff, which to be fair, wasn't very good (I'd give it a D/D+, frankly , but was certainly edible, and was incredibly inexpensive. It was enough for one good meal, but the taste of it wasn't very good (not all that beefy *or* mushroomy...I think they may have used cream of mushroom soup as the base , but at $6.65 plus tax and tip, including a very good piece of grilled bread (surprisingly good, honest! , and a cup of soup (I had the chili mac, which was pretty decent, if a little more beany than I'd like... , it's very hard to complain about that. Consider that the beef stroganoff at Christine's Cuisine, which is *magnificent*, is usually $15 (including a salad and a roll and is enough for at least a meal and a half or two. So, lousy stroganoff, but good bread and soup! And the Blue Plate special, which I really didn't look at hard enough, was stuffed cabbage, served with potatoes, for all of $3.95 plus tax and tip. That's...that's practically giving away the store at that price, if they make them themselves. Add $1 for soup or salad. So, if the food isn't setting your world on fire, you can't complain that they're charging too much. I guess they also have a $4.25 breakfast all day long...but they currently don't open until 11AM. Pandemic.
