Bidra med feedbackGreat lunch: two meat plate with ribs, brisket, cole slaw and German potato salad; Shiner bock on draft. The price was $11.04 plus tip. There are interesting daily specials and lots of unusual beers in bottles. If I lived in Denton, I'd soon become a regular. I'm only passing through, but I did manage to go back for another round. For my second lunch, I tried a two meat plate with pork and hot links. Both were wonderful! My sides were a small bowl of pinto beans (very good and an order of fried okra (meh! . This time I ignored the draft beers and got a bottle out of one of the beer coolers: the Espresso Oak Aged Yeti Imperial Stout, brewed by Great Divide Brewing Company in Denver, CO. That turned out to be a lucky choice; I recommend this beer enthusiastically.
I used to love going here on Friday or Saturday for the All you can eat ribs for $9.99, which included 2 sides and toast. They have recently changed to ordering by the rack . The new Friday/Saturday specials are: 1/2lb of ribs, 2 sides, and toast $5.95 1lb of ribs, 2 sides, and toast $10.95 Whole rack of ribs, 2 sides, and toast $15.95 This obviously isn 't as good of a deal as it used to be, but it 's not bad. I 'd more likely be coming here for my other favorites (either a Ruben or a cheese steak) in the future, rather than the ribs special. They also have a daily food item special that is posted on the board when you first walk in. They have periodic wine and beer samplings at this location that are definitely worth checking out. They also have a large selection of beer, wine, and bottled sodas. Both dining areas have TV 's that are usually playing a local game, if there is one on.
R.I.P. Metzler's on Londonderry. I'll see y'all at the University store. Save me some German potato salad.
I'm surprised that Metzlers is still in business. First off, Dickey's has better BBQ and their BBQ is trash. As for the customer service, they might as well not have anyone working. Showed up on a Sunday at 5:38 to buy a bottle of wine, after calling the store and was told they closed at 6:00pm. There was a lady standing in the store with the lights off and told us they were closed. The hours on the door say they close at 9:00pm. I will never step foot in a Metzler's ever again.
Metzler 's is one of those cool little places you can 't quite put your finger on. They have a large beer and wine section, a small deli with all sorts of meats and cheeses, a restaurant, an event room that can be closed off, a to go counter and an assortment of all sorts of unique items that appeal to vacationers like interesting flavors of chocolate and hot sauce, etc. When you open the door you arrive in front of the to go counter. There is a to go sign but also a menu. so it draws you there. However, if you wish to dine in, go to your right and take a seat, the restaurant is full service. If you go to the left, it 's the store where you can peruse the coolers of beer and wine, choose meats and cheeses, look at the interesting knick knacks etc. I love that they have a Beth Marie 's Ice Cream cooler with 1/2 pints and bars and other goodies. I spied one that said Cupcake as I was leaving and instantly regretted that we had already paid and were headed to the next stop. We 've taken to go orders a couple of times and back in the day, we have ordered from them a few times, but this was the first time we dined in, and that gave me time to scope out the place and appreciate that it 's much larger and offers much more than you would expect. The food is cheap, the portions are pretty big and it 's decent too. You got a good mix of BBQ and German food to choose from. The food isn 't amazing, none of the items we have had is the best here. Yet it 's pretty solid and all of it together is a good deal for price and portion. Since it is cheap, presentation is very cafeteria style but it 's not bad. Good flavors in the food, but don 't bring a food snob here. It will definitely work for a quick bite to eat, if you have your expectations in the right place. The burger was good, the fries were alright but a little bland. The mac and cheese tastes good, but is a little watery. The BBQ chicken was really tasty, but doesn 't look like much. The chopped beef was decent, but looked like sloppy joe meat, so I would probably get it sliced next time. It 's a great spot to get a cheap and filling lunch, the quality of the food is better than the price would suggest. I normally don 't care for people to put BBQ sauce on my food, I would rather have it on the side and dip it in to just get a little. I personally feel that good BBQ doesn 't need sauce, but wow, I would put this sauce on lots of things!! It 's not too vinegary and it 's not too sweet, it 's a good, complimentary flavor that works well on all the meats. Great job on the sauce! Cool little place where you can check out a variety of unique items and get a decent meal. I would say the food is 3 1/2 stars and the friendly service and fun items put it at a 4 overall for the venue.
