Bidra med feedbackWhat a disappointment. After a symphony event, we decided to give Duck City another chance. We have been there other times in the past and were always disappointed. We hoped that this time might be different. From the pretentious staff that thinks they 're highly knowledgeable, to the dirty wine glasses, to the plates that need to be replaced, to the kitchen staff that parades through the dining room in dirty white jackets, to the almost inedible food, this night went from bad to worse. My food critic French husband just wanted to try the duck breast.....but no luck. Guess what....no duck at duck city. How can one run out of the signature dish?? A quickly substituted beef dish was well cooked but was swimming in fat along with vegetables equally saturated in this fat. The portion size was ridiculous...his meal. Looked like an amount for a family of five. My food, promised to be great by the wait staff was the Thai chicken with peanut sauce. What arrived looked like funnel cakes...no one warned me that this chicken would be a breaded monstrosity! As for the puddle of ooze around the plate that was supposed to be peanut sauce”, it was a thick gravy with a hint of peanut butter dragged through it. What was supposed to be a beautifully plated dish was a disaster. I sent it back.....I won 't even comment on the fried rice. Our friend 's steak medium well was like a little black overcooked brick on her plate. Her artichoke stuffed with blue cheese was an afterthought that arrived late and was hastily thrown on her plate. What 's sad to think is that some Quad Cities residents find this to be fine dining .....I tell them to expand their world. THIS IS NOT FINE DINING!
My first visit to Duck City was a complete disappointment. Despite its claim of being one of the best restaurants in the Quad Cities, it fell short in cleanliness, service, and food quality compared to other well-regarded establishments I've dined at. If you’re seeking a romantic and exceptional dining experience, you may find it challenging here. The wine list is presented in a rather uninteresting way—tucked away in a plastic duck on the table—alongside a visual menu and crayons for patrons. Furthermore, simple inquiries to the server, such as the price of the evening's special, require a trip to the kitchen for answers. If you intend to spend over $100 for a memorable meal, I suggest looking elsewhere.
My friend visited me for some fine dining, and we decided to try Duck City since neither of us had been there before. The moment we walked in, we were impressed by the presentation, which turned out to be quite misleading compared to the rest of our dining experience. Our server seemed unfamiliar with the drink menu and didn't prepare our martinis properly. When shaking our drinks at the table, she used her hand as a lid for the shaker. Additionally, she mispronounced "fillet," referring to it as "fill-et." Throughout our meal, plates were not cleared away, and she was generally inattentive and slow. Even though the food was decent, we felt it was overpriced, and the service was simply unacceptable. When we shared our concerns with the manager, he responded with, "Yeah, we really need to work on that." It's safe to say we won't be returning, and I would advise anyone considering this restaurant to think twice. You'll likely leave frustrated and financially lighter.
We really enjoy Duck City. We visit for anniversaries, birthdays, and other special occasions. While it's easy to rack up a hefty bill by choosing the specials, you can still enjoy excellent quality at a reasonable price by sticking to the regular menu. The paella is exceptional, and definitely don’t miss out on the garlic salad—it's fantastic!
