Ever heard of Pénerf? Neither did I, as this little village is virtually unknown to the British holiday maker. Despite this, its associated commune of Damgan is one of France's top tourist destinations as this is where the French come to holiday. Britannia Minor is...a lot different to it's big brother to the north; 20 degrees is somehow a lot hotter here than in England and instead of fish and chips, there is a vast range of other seafood on offer. You can catch your own dinner on the beach (so long as you respect the quota but as I'm sure you're aware, cooking seafood is risky business and can lead to pretty nasty food poisoning. Mercifully, there are restaurants that specialises in serving you the finest local delicacies, without the fear of turning customers into walking vomit distributors. I have dined in various restaurants in the area, but Bistrot de la Mer is the one I kept coming back to it is amazing, the staff are without doubt the friendliest in Brittany and the food never ceases to astound me. What I found particularly unique, is that the food is rarely diluted with salad; you may scoff at the apparent disregard to good health, but trust me, the food served has probably added three hundred years to my life it's already very healthy. (And who actually likes salad with their meal anyway? Another thing I'm fond of is that the menu is easy to understand; there has been many moons since I got an A at GCSE french, so my linguistic flexibility has since packed its bags. I went to another restaurant down the road and I felt completely useless and had to resort to pointing at random dishes on the menu, however, at Bistrot de la Mer, I knew exactly what I wanted and didn't feel nearly as inadequate at communicating. (Remember kids, don't give up on a foreign language even if you've fished exams! Overall, the food is stupendously good and the staff made me feel like I lived in Pénerf my whole life. I would absolutely recommend dining here. My two favorite dishes would have to be the lobster and three fish and vegetable stew . The former being the most expensive but most definitely worth it!
We were given a warm welcome and we're seated immediately even they were busy,. When the starters arrived we were well impressed and the main coarse was delightful as was the dessert. Great atmosphere and will return soon.
