Bidra med feedbackNot sure why this place does not have more reviews, it is great! We followed another group that we were working with to this place one day for lunch when we learned the place we originally wanted to go was not open. Everything we got the first day was great, I think we pretty much stuck with the tacos for the most part. Their hot salsa and the marinated onions are a nice touch. But the group we had followed had fresh fish that was not on the menu and absolutely raved about it. There was only one portion left in the kitchen, and one from our group ordered it, we tried it, and decided to come back and get it another day. The manager said he orders it in advance by request and picks it up the morning of, himself. He made the arrangements for two days later. That day, it was mahi mahi. Best ever. By itself was delicious. I also tried it on a tortilla with some of the marinated onions, sauce, and a slice of pineapple from the fruit tray we ordered from the menu. This was the best meal we had all week.
I came here for a Lunch while on a Cruise. So, How did I find This Place?! This Hole-in-The Wall Restaurant is Very Hidden away and Very Local! Now, When I say, Local, It is about as Local as You can get! While I was in Cozumel, I wanted to do a Mix of Touristy (Tourista and Local Things too. So, We asked Our Taxi Driver to take us to a Local Place with Local Authentic Flavor. He joked at First saying His Home and then, Told us of a Place that has Cheap Prices, Authentic Flavor, and Local Experiences. At least, in the Taxi Driver's Humble Opinion, It is MUCH cheaper than The Restaurants that all the Tourists go to and The Food was Great Quality. Boy, He was right! This Place was Really Good! Now, It should be said that If You want Local, Come Here! But, also expect that It will be tucked away off the beaten path. When We arrived, They sat us next to The A/C Fan so, We would be Nice and Comfortable. Sure, The Locals were a bit curious as to Why we were there and We helped a little with that. We had a tad trouble figuring out what to Eat, so The Owner gave us a Menu with Pictures, and after a Few Minutes, Suggested a Plater with Everything. This Guy was Genius! Because, It was The Best Food (coming from Texas, You think you know Mexican, but, Not Really! and Best Experience. Along with The Local Experience, look out the Window and Watch the Ongoings and Inner Workings of The Neighborhood. Don't Worry, Our Taxi Driver said it was Safe! My Favorite Part of The Meal, was a Crunchy Tortilla with Green Sauce on it. If You come, Order the Multi-Plate (I'm Sorry, I don't Remember the name of It . So, Worth It! Best Meal of The Trip!
Cozumel is known for the big restaurants downtown and ocean side. We asked our cab driver to take us to a local restaurants for some good home cooking. He suggested his house and then quickly suggested Loncheria Dona Chary. It is definitely not a restaurant that you will find on the beaten path. However, it is a local as you can get outside of going to the cabbie's home. The prices were dirt cheap. The owner took personal care of us. He made us feel like royalty. Took us to a special table directly under the A/C and turned the temperature down so that we would be comfortable. With the plastic 50's style tablecloths and views of a third world country out of the cafe windows, we got exactly what we were looking for. The menu was a little hard for us to figure out. So the owner brought a special menu over with pictures. (Laughing). We pointed at a large platter food and he was off to prepare it. We didnt know if we would get or how tasty it would be or if we were going to be sick afterwards. However, to make a long story short, it was the best meal of the trip. The spices popped in your mouth. Being from Texas, we thought we knew Mexican food, but this food put everything to shame. And, just in case you are wondering, no one got sick. A great experience and great value. If you are looking for something different, this place will not disappoint.
My wife and I were walking this area and went for lunch on a recommendation of a friend. Excellent food. I had some great grilled shrimp. This is a very nice place for breakfast or lunch..closes at 1:30 in the afternoon. Very good
