Bidra med feedbackOne evening, my wife, adult daughter, and I decided to visit this restaurant in Porthleven after reading previous reviews. We arrived around 6pm and were surprised to see how busy the pub was for a midweek night in November. It appeared to be a popular spot for locals, with a nice atmosphere and friendly staff. Although there were initially no available tables, we managed to secure one after about 15 minutes, giving us time to look over the menu. I ordered the short rib beef pie with mash, mushrooms, and carrot, my wife chose the Megrim Sole with sauce and greens, and our daughter opted for the pepper sausages on a bed of mash and lentils. While all the meals were tasty, we were somewhat disappointed. My pie was small and shallow, more like a meat patty than a pie, and the portions were not very generous. Additionally, my wife's Megrim was delicious, but our daughter's sausages were the only hot items on the plate. Despite these shortcomings, we enjoyed the evening, the pub atmosphere, and the overall flavor of the food. However, we were disappointed by the portion sizes and the temperature of some of the dishes.Overall, while we may not return due to these issues, we did appreciate the experience and the taste of the food.
We were fortunate to secure a table at this restaurant on a stormy Sunday afternoon. We sat by a window with a view of the waves crashing over the breakwater. The atmosphere was lovely, but what really stood out was the exceptional service from the staff. They were incredibly friendly and went above and beyond. The food was delicious and the beers were well-maintained. The pub has a bright and cheery interior, situated in a perfect spot overlooking the harbor and the sea. If you don't visit the Ship Inn during your time in Porthleven, you truly haven't experienced all that the town has to offer.
Lovely pub with great views from its outside area and a warm welcome inside. This is a bit of an icon due to its location and well worth a visit on a trip to this attractive fishing village. We did not eat but the food looked good and seemed well priced. The beer was very well kept and there were both craft and real laes and my wife enjoyed her cider. The staff were friendly but there is no parking.
On our first evening in Porthleven, we walked the harbor all the way around from our cottage in spitting rain very windy conditions to enjoy a meal at The Ship Inn. Our hopes were high given our trek thru chilly less than ideal conditions. We were not disappointed in ANY aspect!! The atmosphere was lively, our table was tucked in a cozy corner where we could observe all the goings-on of English pub life, the service was fabulous, and our drinks and meals were SO GOOD!! In fact, we enjoyed it so much, we didn't hesitate on night#2 to go here again! The food is prepared perfectly, quantity quality are beyond suitable, and for a pub, we were rather impressed at how great the whole experience was when mirrored with price!! If in or near Porthleven, and looking for a great meal in a pub environment, GO HERE and experience for yourself!!
It’s been a while since we felt so welcome in a pub especially with a dog. A lovely old style pub in a Cornish fishing village I half expected a Pirate to walk through the door. Food was lovely and reasonably priced. Highly recommended. Bar staff were a credit to the place.
