Other than the addition of WiFi, which lets you connect to the outside world, you can totally get away from the stresses of life here. So sharing the shower/bathroom with the other guests in the lodge is a blast from the past--something you only see in 20s and 30s era movies. Don't let that scare you away! The food is fantastic, and the bed was as comfortable as home! Both the presentation and the flavor of our vegetarian meals amazed me. I left the table satiated and anticipating the next meal. There are so many outdoor activities available. I chose to hike up to the waterfall. I enjoyed the water lilies along the lake's edge and the chipmunks coming right up to my feet as I sat on the rocks beside the waterfall. I also got some kayak time in. Just a wonderful place!
If you get the chance to go here, do it. Amazing location, great food and drinks (could even accommodate food allergies like gluten and dairy free with grace), and lovely hosts. We were there with a group which helped make the shared bathrooms in the lodge easier. Such a good time to connect with family and the simpler things (aka no TVs, but enough internet to check email and get on a work call if you must). We would go back in a heartbeat but know that the lodge is rustic you are going for the views and good vibes. I'm looking forward to the renovations this lodge won't survive another 50 years without them and it would be so sweet to go back with my own grandkids, God willing! If you're a bystander and looking to save Holland Lake, perhaps the place to start is limiting hours of jet skis and ski boats (or stopping them completely). They were all coming from the docks across the lake (not the lodge) from the private use cabins on federal leases, as well as the campground.
Calling the cabins rustic is an overstatement. Lacking basic Maintenace is more accurate, especially when you consider the price. Christian seems to think he can treat people however he likes, not the most gracious host. Rooms: 1 Service: 3 Location: 4
It is a beautiful Lake and rustic Lodge. I would like to keep visiting. The people were helpful and genuinely nice. They cared about my stay. Rooms: 5 Service: 5 Location: 5
Out of state company POWDR is trying to privatize public forest service land for personal gain. If visiting please consider camping at the lake, its free. Do not give these people a penny, keep Montana public.
