Excellent food, always very crowded. A tip is to wait for the crowds to dissipate and take your time because the experience is worth it. my only complaint is that the service and food on Monday or Tuesday seem like they could be a little slow and food leftover from the high turnover on the weekends. Overall the food is really excellent, just maybe at its best at the high volume times.
We found El Caldero when wandering close to our posada, a few blocks away from the main square. It was super. We ordered main courses and drinks, and recieved complimentary tostadas/tortillas with frijoles and cheese. After we hungrily devoured these we received another helping! The pickled and spicy salsas were great too. The main courses turned out to be brothy affairs, which we weren't expecting but enjoyed a lot. It was pretty quiet when we went (granted, it was early evening and midweek) so if you're in town we'd strongly recommend you go and give the place your support!
Bowl almost too small for the amount of gambas in the soup. Delicious, kind staff, not crowded (low season).
