Bidra med feedbackI love this restaurant charming atmosphere, amazing and authentic food. Sadly it hasn't been open for a while now, perhaps even since Covid in 2020. Does anyone have any news or an update? I'd love for this gem of a restaurant to open up again.
We were familiar with Mandalay from its previous location on Edgware Road. However, we were disappointed with its new location. We suggest moving to a different location soon, as we believe you will reach the same conclusion quickly. Perhaps Kings Road in Hammersmith or the high street in Cricklewood would be better options, but Kilburn is not a suitable choice. The food was better at the old Edgware Road location, perhaps because the chef's wife was on holiday.
Visited here after I found out they had re opened. It was great to see the owner again I used to visit the old place very regularly when they were in Edgware Road many years ago. The interior is not as charming as the old place, and the menu is much smaller, some of the old classics have vanished, such as the twice cooked fish curry, and the old lunch deal no longer exists (used to be something like 6 pounds for starter, main and dessert). Location is a bit of a shame as it feels like a bit of a rough area. Food was tasty, although quite spicy (ask for mild if required), and fairly oily (although normal in Burma). Probably not as good as before, although I give enormous credit to the owner for keeping this restaurant running (they have been through a difficult situation) and allowing us to experience Burmese food in London!
Our group had a stellar dinner at Mandalay! We enjoyed the cucumber papaya salad (amazing!! , shrimp egg rolls, lamb danbauk (wow!! and the twice-cooked fish (fish curry . This is seriously one of the best meals in London, and you can’t beat the price. Visit Dwight at the Mandalay, and sit back and enjoy the fantastic food.
I had been wanting to try this restaurant for a few years, so I was eager to finally dine here. After doing some research online, I was excited to try the chicken khausay and lamb tamarind, along with the tea leaf salad and spring rolls. However, I was disappointed to find that the food was only average, if not slightly below average. The shrimp spring rolls lacked flavor and the filling was unremarkable. The tea leaf salad, which I expected to be refreshing like a mango or papaya salad, was mainly roasted peanuts with very few vegetables and strands of cucumber, making it rich and difficult to eat. The chicken coconut noodle soup, despite looking good in photos, tasted like tinned coconut milk and lacked spice and aroma. The tamarind lamb was flavorful, similar to Caribbean goat curry, but the meat was not cooked to order and tasted a little flat, with a small portion size. Overall, if you're looking for exotic flavors, I would recommend trying Penang Satay in Turnpike Lane or Roti King in Euston for more kick and flavor in their dishes. While I appreciate the owner's hospitality and the opportunity to try Burmese food, it unfortunately did not meet my expectations.
