The Baobao House - Christchurch

We have ordered takeout from Bao Bao 3-4 times since moving to the area, and each time we have been extremely impressed with the delicious, freshly cooked food. I have a gluten allergy, so I called to confirm my meal options, and they were very helpful in addressing my concerns. Unlike typical Chinese takeout that tends to taste greasy and unhealthy to me, this food is fresh, flavorful, and clearly distinguished. Some of our favorite dishes include crispy seaweed and sticky crispy beef with Kung Po sauce. Unfortunately, they were out of beef last time, but they recommended chicken strips with the Kung Po sauce instead, and it was just as delicious. Although slightly more expensive than traditional takeout, it is definitely worth it for the incredible food. Additionally, all of their ingredients are ethically sourced, and the meals are served in recyclable cardboard or compostable packaging, which is a huge bonus.

We had high hopes for this takeout meal, especially after enjoying the delicious crispy beef. However, our experience quickly went downhill from there. The crispy squid was soggy and chewy, accompanied by a bland and watery sweet and sour sauce. We only received half of the BaoBao dumplings we ordered, which turned out to be a blessing in disguise given the poor quality. Unfortunately, this disappointed experience has led us to not return to this restaurant.

What a delightful takeout experience!! Everything was so fresh and delicious! I tried the tofu satay with noodles and it was fantastic. I usually feel a bit bloated after a large Asian takeout meal, but I didn't feel that way after this meal. I will definitely be ordering from here more often!

I cannot speak highly enough of BaoBao House. Not only was the food sensational but so was the service. We placed a large order too late in the day and they not only accepted it, but when it took longer to complete than originally anticipated, continually kept us up to date and went above and beyond to get it completed despite being faced with closing time and end of shifts for the chefs! Can’t wait to try more!!

Had the meat selection and crispy beef... It was soooo good. The amazing naughty Chinese takeaway feeling without the bloating after. Service was fantastic can't be beaten
