Steak 'n Shake - Chicago

As a student that used to live in the dorms, one of my favorite places to go to. Affordable, good food, good people.Parking: Street parking, pay to park.

I used to love going here before covid. It used to be so clean, and there was a big variety of food. There were also hats and coloring pages that came with the kids meal. I recently went back, excited since I haden't been there in a year. I live about 30 minutes away from this restaurant and I thought it was going to be worth it since I get nauseauos in the car. I was so surprised. I have to admit, the new way of ordering was kind of cool, but everything else was horrible. They used to sell chicken tenders and other stuff but now they only sell hamburgers, hotdogs, and grilled cheese. I went to the bathroom and it was disgusting. The toilets looked like they had not been cleaned in MONTHS. I did not take a look at how dirty the floor and tables were until after I ordered. When I actually got the food, it was not even that good. This was a waste of time and money. Worst dine in experience EVER.

Although the website a says they are open and closes at 2a.m. Do not waste your time driving over, there's a sign on the window that says Closed for ???. Maybe they will see this post and check their website before they mislead anyone else.

This location may be closed you cannot order online and phone disconnected. This owner also owned re-opened and closed again the frankfort Il location, perhaps the same fate for this university park locale. My experience two years ago awful so I never returned but always empty or closed when I drive past on halsted these days

I highly do NOT RECOMMEND this place. Where do you start the staff is very rude . Customer service sucks food is terrible. I bit into a hard cold chicken tender and cracked my tooth what a day! I called to make them aware the fat old man who couldn’t rarely see tried to argue with me that food was cold and it it was the food they had sitting in that basket I wish I took a picture of they should be ashamed of themselves.I honestly don’t think I want to deal with management if it’s the same Courtney I think it is. Because she has an nasty attitude as well.
