Bidra med feedbackBrought my 91 year old German grandmother here up from the Southside well worth the trip. In her words “I could have gone nuts!” There’s a large selection of European sausages and meats, including her fav, liver dumplings. I noticed a vegan section as well as various cheeses and imported snacks. Upstairs was the alcohol selection along with imported and domestic baking/pantry goods. She was able to get her German tabloids and we’ll definitely be back.
Quality meats and helpful cheerful staff behind the deli counter and cash wrap. It was my first time there and the place was immaculately clean organized!
Wonderful butcher and market with a wide range of house made sausages, meats, deli meats, and European condiments, jellies and jams, pickles, frozen items and other groceries. Some standouts are the Alpine sausage, the kassler (smoked pork chop) and the black pudding. There is also a rooftop garden that is open 4 days a week and is unpretentious and serves fresh cooked sausages and other items (weather permitting it opens after memorial day and not sure when it closes).
Gene's is short walk from my house and if I have free time to walk around, I tend to find myself pursuing their eclectic selections of food and drink. I can't stress enough how friendly their staff has always been. I recommend shopping here for all kind of regular groceries and specialty goods. For instance, I refuse to buy jam somewhere else more box chainy; Gene's selection is too wide and well priced. Support businesses like these.
Get your grocery shopping done and grab a beer and bratwurst at their famous roof top on the 3rd floor. Cash only for the rooftop. Elevator accessible. One bathroom. Nice breeze, expect a line to order, but moves fast.
