Bidra med feedback41 years ago we were in this house for the first time. Interhotel called it “Congress “Today a hostel of the Dorint hotel chain. Between these decades there are worlds. The outer impressions are still similar. It offers a more pleasant accommodation today. The centre of Chemnitz, which is still called Karl Marx City during the first visit, is within walking distance and offers a number of sights and shopping opportunities. From the window from there on, as today, the “Nish” of the Volksmunds for the Karl Marx Monument.
A very nice and clean hotel with friendly staff. A great advantage that it is located directly in the city centre and many shopping facilities as well as sights and museums are within walking distance. This also saves driving costs to explore the city.
Hotel Mercure Kongress in Chemnitz can be seen from a distance. With its 29 floors distributed over just over 100 meters above sea level, it is not the highest building here, the fireplace of the north heating power plant still offers 200 meters more, but the highest inhabited building in the city. Opened in 1974 as a new building inside the complex, there is still the town hall with large and small hall and some gastronomic facilities. In contrast to the trend, however, the gastronomy was not increased, but above all the gastronomy was rebuilt in many parts. There is only the restaurant on the top floor in the hotel, at the moment this is unfortunately only open for breakfast guests from the outside. My last night is probably back in the 30 years, so I can't say anything about today's comfort. But a training led me to the meeting rooms on the 2nd floor. You can see the premises for many years, but everything works well maintained and well kept in the fire. The conference technology stands at the stand of time and everything worked excellently. Chairs comfortable, air-conditioned room, modern conference technology. The break snack was set up in the foyer, small snacks, cakes, coffee and soft drinks. Friendly staff was helpful. Standing snacks in the best sense, was long enough served during the educational event. The hotel is therefore very well suited for meetings or similar events. For tourists, of course, only those must go for gastronomic experiences. Ringsum is home to some very good restaurants because the immediate city center is at the feet of the high-rise building. The parking situation in the city center is not quite easy, there are parking garages nearby, but they are fully occupied for high transporters with whom I was not suitable this day, the parking lot of the hotel in front of the entrance was fully occupied. It would therefore only be desirable to search for a circle which, however, is complicated by parking time limitation to 2 or 3 hours and is limited in time. A ten-minute walk finally brought me from the approximately distant but free parking at the edge of the street to the hotel. Update: Since January 2018, the hotel has a new tenant and a new name. Mercure becomes Dorint. The well-known hotel group has taken over the hotel business, soon begins a renovation work planned during operation. The restaurant on the top floor, formerly known as Jalta Bar, is to be reopened for public full-day operation.
