My friend and I took a trip along Ave. Royale, admiring the beautiful autumn foliage. Marie's is more than just a restaurant - it's a bakery and a historic destination. You can purchase freshly baked bread or slices slathered with delicious homemade maple butter. The bakery also offers souvenirs and displays old photographs. Marie speaks English fluently, which was a plus for us. The highlight of our visit was seeing the original bread oven located above the street. There are additional ovens and root cellars along Ave. Royale, situated on the mountainside of one of the oldest roads in North America.
The bread is so delicious! I drove there year after year and it's always so good! Add maple butter and just call it luck!
Bread with maple and coffee was it. Coffee is good, the bread so-so. Stone work and wood of the building is archeticturally interesting as are the old stone baking ovens outside of the building. Worth stopping for brief visit.
We recently visited and bought bread and pastries. They were from this word and tasted very good, but you can really see the effects of reduced touringim on this facility. If you should visit in the Quebec region if not only to help keep this historic bakery alive, but also to buy amazing tasting bread and pastries.
