A pleasant discovery during a two-way meal! The dishes are well thought out and tasteful. The entry based on eggplant, anchovies and a delicious mousseline to fall. Vegetarian risotto with zucchini a nice discovery, even if a little salty. The Diplomat for just exquisite dessert! Very nice wine card. Nice room, rustic. It's worth the return!
The place is filled with zenitude and it will be sensible to phone at least to know the menu of the day because the dishes are with powerful flavors and will clear the fine beaks; the products are local and the home cuisine; the service starts at 12:30 and there is no worker menu, nor beer(s) pressure. The atmosphere reminds a third-place, as well as the very cool service. The sound background (this day: Billie Holiday) is pleasant, gastro rates and parking possible in front and around.
We visited this place having read a number of positive reviews but were disappointed to find that it wasn't open for lunch despite the restaurant page of the website saying 'The restaurant is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner.' Hoping this review is useful for other travellers as the web page hasn't been changed to date, despite our having pointed it out to staff.
Chassignolles is a lovely little village tucked away half an hour east of the A75 just north of Brioude. It's surrounded by pine forests which provide some of the ingredients for the meals each night, especially cepes, a local mushroom that grows wild in the forests.Peter the owner and chef does a set menu each night that is both unusual and simply delicious. We went in very late season (the last week before they close for the winter) so it was very quiet but each year they hold a wine festival which packs out the village.I can thoroughly recommend not just the Auberge but also the village and general area.
