Bidra med feedbackWe enjoyed lunch here on the Fouth of July. It is very good barbecue. The waitress was very friendly as was the pit master.
We are in SE Kansas, staying in Chanute, to attend the 146th Old Soldiers Sailors Reunion in Erie, KS and to attend the free bean feed on Friday night. We ate Thursday evening at Smokey D's BBQ on Main St. in Chanute. Our waitress was helpful, cordial and attentive; and our food was on the table quickly. My husband and I both had the Thursday special: A burger covered with brisket, topped with cheese, then topped with either coleslaw or baked beans. Potato salad for the side. The brisket was delicious and tender, and the hamburger was very flavorful. Add a slathering of BBQ sauce, and you know this is worth a second trip to SE Kansas. I enjoyed the classic potato salad, but I do like how my husband makes it with a little Worcesterchire Sauce to kick it up a notch. We talked with the owner, Mark Davidson, and his wife. We also sampled the sweet and spicy BBQ sauce. We really need some of that when you get it in a bottle! We must come back to try other menu items. This restaurant is a jewel tasty food at a great price.
I want to clarify that this is Southeast Kansas, so my five-star rating doesn't mean you should expect a formal dining experience with white tablecloths and fine silverware. However, compared to other small-town restaurants in SEK, especially those on Main Street, I believe this place deserves five stars. The ribs were reasonably priced, cooked to just the right tenderness for my taste, and the portion sizes for the sides were just right. My wife and I found the ribs to be delicious and would definitely return. We also had great interactions with the staff, from the young hostess/server/cashier with freckles to the owner or BBQ chef, who all contributed to a wonderful dining experience.
I absolutely loved it! My best friend took a client, who was a school teacher in town 50 years ago, to the restaurant. The food is fantastic!
The food is absolutely amazing—tender and full of flavor! It's definitely a must-try!
