Rider Cafe - Chamonix-Mont-Blanc

Very bad coffee, mediocre food , what a pity ! The location is great and there is no other choice. Arrogant ? When I gently mentioned that everyone complained about the coffee , the answer was fired back in my face : well if you don’t like it , don’t order it ! I’ve known Chamonix for some forty years. The “restaurants d’altitude “certainly don’t come close to those in Italy and Switzerland but this type of attitude is totally unwarranted.

So collectively we spent quite a lot of time here. Great view of the mountains. Get a sofa outside in one of the sun traps. Excellent. Pizza was ok. Pasta dishes great though. Coffee ok.

Not much alternative there. But EUR3.70 for a coffee in a paper cup is excessive. Even in Chamonix. As is EUR12.50 for the quarter of a pizza.

Stopped here for lunch whilst skiing the grand montets ... sheltered here to eat during white out conditions so place fairly busy but we still managed to get table inside. Self service mountain cafe ... fairly pricey for bowl of soup and tartiflette. No pichets of wine so paid 18euros for a 50cl bottle to share. Pretty much what you expect for a self service place up the mountain ... plenty seating inside and out on terrasse so you'd expect to be able to stop here and get table fairly easily.
