Bidra med feedbackVery good night once we found the restaurant (Apple Maps brought us to the wrong closed entrance).
We booked the mill restaurant for a special wedding anniversary. We have been there for Sunday lunch many times so we were really looking forward to a special evening. Firstly we were seated with our backs to the restaurant looking onto a wall the water mill which during the day is spectacular but it was dark on this night. There was a screaming child next to us for the first 40 mins of our time there. We were also seated too near the cheese trolley so the staff had to squeeze past one of our chairs regularly which was uncomfortable. We had to call our waiter over for drinks/menus. There was no attention paid to us. One of our steaks was blue we asked for medium. There was no apology or offer to keep the other one warm while we waited for it to be redone. We waited about 20 minutes to order desserts which by the time someone noticed we had decided to just get the bill which came with again no apologies. There was no consistency in the evening. It was haphazard a bit chaotic considering it wasn’t overly busy the staff were not up the usual standard we have come to expect from Lyon’s estate. We were very disappointed even more so when they never even replied to an email we sent them that night explaining our disappointment.

Overall disappointing, food, one main course had to be returned, cheap form of lamb, unusual for a top of the range restaurant. Service was disappointing apart from a waiter from Newcastle who was excellent. we will be back to give it a second chance!
The food was good, unfortunately there was not enough staff there to cover the tables sufficiently. Food and drinks took a long time to come out however, the staff were friendly. The room has been redecorated and it has kind of killed the character it used to have.
